I'm finally getting around to writing another garden post, it's been a while...
I picked a bunch of tomatoes from the greenhouse plants a couple of days ago, I need to get busy and get them canned. A lot of these tomatoes are Amish Paste tomatoes, along with some Romas and a few Early Girl tomatoes. The Amish Paste tomatoes are nice big paste tomatoes. The Romas are not as big, but still nice.
For some of the tomatoes, since they were all ripe on the stem, I just cut the stem off the plant. A lot of these are the Roma type.
I still have a lot of tomatoes left to pick in the greenhouse.
I canned my first batch of tomatoes about 2 weeks ago, those were almost all Early Girl tomatoes. They got ripe before any of the others.
I managed to get more pints out of that batch than I expected.
I canned them the same day as the first batch of beans that I canned this year. I used a water bath canner for the tomatoes.
I've also started digging a few of my potatoes, I didn't want to buy anymore from the store and I figured that they were about read to start digging. I've been digging up a few plants at a time as I need them. These are some of the russet potatoes that I dug up.
I went up to the community garden today to mow around my plots, and I brought my potato digging fork and a bucket with me. I decided to dig up a row of the red potatoes since I figured they were ready to be dug. I think there was 7 plants in the row, and I got at least 15 pounds of potatoes from the one row. I was impressed with how well the red potatoes did this year.
I think I'm going to end up with a really good crop of potatoes this year. I'll dig up the red potatoes and use them first since they don't store for as long as the other types of potatoes that I grow. I can leave the yellow and the white potatoes in the ground for at least until the end of September, unless I want to dig a few to eat. Once I start digging the potatoes, I'll store them in the refrigerator in the basement for the winter. The Yukon Gold potatoes will keep well all winter in there, and the russets usually keep about that long also.

I'm still waiting for my potatoes... they seem to take forever this year
The red potatoes that I grow are a short season variety, so they're usually always ready by the end of August. The rest of the potatoes are still more or less growing, but I had planted the russet whites at the end of May, so they were about done growing.
Nice to have... My plants have flowers that's all. Doubt I will see a tomato before winter starts.

It sounds like you're having a weird year for tomatoes.
I just planted the seeds too late ended up in hospital and planted the tiny plants too late outside. I found it a pity to throw them away. So I will see if something comes out of it. Who knows.

If you protect them from the frost this fall, you might get some tomatoes before winter. :-)

No noodle maker, but I do have a grocery store... :-)
We just love those Amish Paste tomatoes for making a great sauce.
Yes, the Amish Paste tomato is probably my favorite paste type tomato now. :-)
