Along with my garden at home, I also have a plot at the local community garden. The community garden is owned by the city, and they rent out the plots for a one time fee every year. The city provides the water as part of the fee, so it's not too bad. Last year was my first year there. It was suggested to me by my shrink, I guess she thought it would get me out to socialize more.
Anyway, I got a really good crop of potatoes from there last year, so I decided to get the plot again this year. The plots are all 14 feet by 20 feet. This is my plot.
It has to be fenced in with chicken wire to keep the local rabbits out of the plot. The grey pipes on the ground are for my irrigation system. I don't like using a sprinkler, I don't want to water the weeds along with the potatoes.
This is the valve setup that I hook all the watering pipes up to. I have to adjust the valves to get the same water flow from each pipe. If I just let them all run, at least 1 of the pipes will barely flow while 1 or 2 of the pipes will flow too much. I can water 4 rows at the same time this way, so it doesn't take as much time to get the watering done. I'm going to have to make 2 more pipes so that I can water all 6 rows at the same time.
This is most of the community garden, there's a couple more plots out of the picture on the left side. Mine is the far one on the right hand side. Nobody is using the one in the left hand corner this year. I was going to cut the grass there, but my battery electric mower isn't powerful enough to do it. I wore out the old gas mower last year, and I can't justify buying another one just for this.
I know that most of the potato plants are up now at my plot, the next time I go up there, I'll have to take another picture.
Thanks for stopping buy and checking out my post, eh!

I love your pics. Your soil looks healthy and dark. Great nutrient levels :-) I cant wait to see it when it blooms!
Hey @amberyooper ! I am also a Yooper, I didn't think I would randomly find another yooper on steemit so fast, it's my 5th day.
I am in a new house this year so unfortunately I don't have a garden and didn't get a plot in the community garden either 😞 oh well, now i have an excuse to go to the farmer's market every weekend 😊
Good luck with your garden this year, the UP is a great place to grow, I've had great success with gardens in the past! Gave ya a follow, please check out my blog if you have time! Cheers fellow yooper!

Also, check out my blogs.
Thanks!
I'll check you out.
What a great idea looks so nice.
Thanks!
Community gardens are such a good idea. The city gets a bit of revenue, otherwise vacant land is productive, and you get a nice harvest (knock wood). Winning formula. I wish more towns and cities would do this.
Thanks for including it!
Yes, it would be nice if more communities had garden spaces like this.
