HDIG - High Density Interval Gardening - Bonifacio brought us horse manure!

in #gardening7 years ago

Oh, you might wonder, why is she getting all excited about a couple of buckets of horse manure?

Well, some of you might have read my series on HDIG and how I started off my vertical gardening project using 20 laundry baskets and Azomite and seabird guano and Sonic Bloom. Yes, these products work indeed very well, but are costly.

The other day I spoke to "Boni" as Bonifacio is called in the village where we live. His name actually means "he who does good". He is the absolutely nicest wheeler and dealer I've ever met. He does go out of his way to bring things we want and can't get anywhere, but he can get them because he lived here all his life and made it his business to know simply everybody.

A few days ago I had asked him if he knew somebody around here who has horses and he said he did. Then I asked if he could get me a sack of horse manure every month and we pay him for it as it's a service and because our place is too small to buy a truckload full of manure. We wouldn't know where to store it!

And today he came with two big buckets or mature horse manure, almost powdery - THE BEST!

We were so excited that we immediately went to mulch all our plants with a thin layer of this powdery manure and most of it I already watered in a bit and then it got to hot outside, so the rest has to be done tonight or tomorrow morning when it's cooler.

I really don't know why we feel so lucky since we moved into our modernized cave house in Galera/Andalucia/Spain. We've battled against the tide for over 14 years on our homestead in Valencia and now suddenly, as if we were meant to do what we do and be happy, well, certainly the people of Galera are so nice and understand where we are coming from and help, help, help!

We have also joined http://www.foodisfreeproject.org We've put up our sign a couple of days ago and we had already 2 neighbors inquiring about what exactly we do and what it means.

Do you need some new friends after you moved to a new city/town/village? Put up a Foodisfreeproject sign and you will make the right sort of friends easily!

Love to all!
