My Tiny Garden - Dendrobium Kingianum orchid in bloom.

in #gardening7 years ago (edited)

This is my tiny Dendrobium Kingianum var silcockii orchid. Why tiny? Well.. if you put the whole plant on you hand it would probably fit there. Not very big. But so darn gorgeous!

I got it last year as one plant. The previous owner said it never bloomed for her, so she wanted to sell it. It turned out to be two plants in one pot, yay! Now I keep the in separate pots, give them lots of light and make sure they have enough water in warm months and they just grow beautifully.
Check out those gorgeous little flowers.

Pretty eh? And now imagine a strong honey fragrance...
Yep, they smell like honey.

The flowers do not last too long. About 2-3 weeks, but next year, when the plant grows even bigger its gonna be even better! so worth it :)

Me too :) Maybe one day..

That is so beautiful and wow never seen an orchid so small that the plant would fit in ones hand how cool is that

Thanks JJ! It is very cool! And she is not the smallest out there. I have even smaller ones. And there really tiny tiny ones too :)

WOW really that is cool

It is :) That's why I like them :D

Beautiful photos of beautiful flowers! And I am so impressed that you got them to bloom.

Thank you! This one wasn't hard to bloom. There are more fussy ones... and of course I did kill some too ;)

Beautiful photo and flower!

The top photo got the extra of looking like a flying creature seen from the front with open mouth and great wings. You see it?

You are lucky that I did not get my hands on this photo, I could have ruined it to make a flying dragon out of it :)

Make a flying dragon Bragi! You have my permission :D

It kinda looks like one... but I know the plant and she is so cute and tiny and innocent, that I would never think of her as dragon.

Thank you :)

I say the same, I think I drop the dragon ide in respect for this beautiful flower :)

I will not tell her ;)

Hehehe! Bragi!

great Job, Ewa....i take it to my wall ;)

Thank you very much Chrissy :)

Oh! How lovely! Honey aroma, I just love it !!! And I also want this !!!!! And I will expect from you more and more photos! It's good that we found each other here. We can get pleasure from the photo of each of us!

It is absolutely lovely little plant :) I knew you will like it!
Now we will tease each other with plants hahaha :D

hahaha :-) this is for us to sleep "calmly"

:D exactly!

Thats lovely

Thank you :)

Beautiful flowers. I just had to sell my orchid and cacti including some D. kingianum. Probaby 150 plant or there about. Will start collecting again when settled at our new abode.

Oh my! That is a huge collection. You were moving? That's why you had to? Such a shame... you didn't keep a single one?
I have some cacti too, but not as many. And last month I had one blooming for the first time with those huge, white flowers... Echinopsis I think.

Thank you :)

I do have one left and it is a type of Echinopsis. We have not moved yet. When we do, I might take a piece, wrap it newspaper, and see if it grows. It will be wrapped up for a few months so not sure if it will work. Actually I took a time lapse of the flowers on that one. Might post that tomorrow.

It might make it...
Looking forward to the video. I took some photos of my one just have to get them from a camera.

How sweet! I love tiny orchids! Where do you keep them? I have trouble finding places!

Thank you! I keep most of them on my window sills.
The ones that don't need too much light are on a shelf a little bit further or on a kitchen table.

This little one does like light, but be careful with direct sun - it might burn the leaves.

Thank you! :)

Incredibly gorgeous Ewka.........RSD & UPV 😊💚

Thank you! Pity she can't read :)

Here is a quick version of the 'dragon' flower. With more time and using layers and drawing into it, it would look more like a dragon But I only edit it to emphasize the dragon lines in the photo. Hope I'm not ruining your photo too much :)

That looks really cool! And more "evil" :D
The side flower now looks like big claws trying o get me!
I like it :))

Thank you :) you can see the dragon that I saw now don't you?

Oh yes :D

I can see demons everywhere. That's how many of my pictures come to be ;)

Sometimes you scare me :D

Great shots, Very cool and beautiful flower

Thanks Halo :)

They look so delicate! You identified an orchid for me, from a photo on Tsu, as a Dendrobium. It smells like raspberries! You told me how to mistreat it and it was successful! I got 2 flowers this year and the stems is looking more dead than ever now. But the roots are super strong. I wouldn't have had a clue taht the plant is happy! It's a crazy orchid world! Thanks!

Smells like raspberries? Not all Dendrobiums smell like that. Some don't have fragrance at all.
Have a look if yours is Dendrobium anosmum. Beautiful plant! Maybe it is that one, so you will know how to care for it exactly. I didn't have it, bot everyone say it smells like raspberries.

It's this one:

Ahhh yes.. Now I remember :D
It's a Dendrobium Nobile. Bright light, but not too much direst sun. It will drop the old leaves in the fall and go to sleep. Likes colder, drier, but still sunny winter rest until flower buds start forming. Then you should slowly start to water. After it flowers new canes should grow and those will bloom next season.

I keep mine on east facing window and it gets around 25 -29 degrees C in summer and about 15-18 in the winter. Blooms every year :)

Thanks for all that! It had 3 flowers this year. You told me it would lose its leaves but not to throw in out, thinking I was killing it. You saved an orchid! :D

Yayy!! Mission accomplished :D

Awww,so pretty!

The cutest little orchid that bloomed for me so far :)
