Slow Leopard slug in the garden on a cold Fall day

in #gardening7 years ago

Some days I feel like the Slug is my Spirit animal!

As I made my way through the garden while I meandered around on my way to deal with the animal's hay, I found this slug slowly moving along. At 40F the slug didn't seem to be able to move fast at all. Normally when they are touched they will contract quickly, but this one slowly contracted on itself. I went and did a few things before going to get the camera and lenses.

Proof of my getting dirty for the pictures.

The slug took a quick flight into the chicken yard where they pounced on it right away. Now that the plastic is up off the soil the slugs are having to find other areas to hide so they are a bit more transitory right now, probably in preparation for winter.

Wow, that's an awesome slug. And it has pretty cool camouflage too.

They look super cool, weird, but cool. I just don't like them in or near my garden so they get to experience the insides of the chickens.

Poor thing was cold. Does that mean the chickens had a cold dinner?

Some cold cuts as a starter :p

It was a cold hors d'oeuvre for them. I should have put it on a toothpick and a small plate with a little garnish. Next time I will have to try and remember to do that.

I find those slugs so pretty!

Aesthetically they are really cool, but practically they are far to detrimental for me to allow them to remain in my garden. Cost benefit analysis says...

Cannot argue with that :p
