We tried sowing some Quinoa at the college garden back in June and having a small empty bed in my tunnel at home I decided to try the remaining seeds there. However owing to the plants strong resemblance to Lambs Quarters in its early stages and an overenthusiastic first year weeder the outdoor garden plants have disappeared and were a failure.
Lambs Quarters
The plants in my tunnel are a different story though. They are thriving.I have to confess if I had not known better I would have probably thought they were Lambs Quarter and whipped them out as well.
The buds are coming on strong and flowering should'nt be too far away.
Its great to see this plant thriving in a country that would not have ideal growing conditions to suit it.The wonderful growing powers of a polytunnel.Hopefully I should be able to harvest a usable amount of this beautiful cereal.
A quick peek at some of the veg which we are sending to show this week.
Over the years before I became a gardener and lover of herbs, I would weed away Lamb's Quarters, but now I know better. I thought it was just a weed, no nutritional value. BOY was I wrong!
I see you share the love for gardening like me.
Nothing beats the food you grow yourself. Its just so much better than store bought stuff
great post! I love quinoa and lambs quarters!

Thanks for this post. Very useful to see what quinoa looks like.
I have just got some quinoa seeds, may need to wait til next year to sow now. But we also have fat hen (lamb's quarter) here as well so useful to know the difference.
