A Cupful of Vegetable Garden Outside My Window

in #gardening6 years ago (edited)

Yes, you can grow a garden in cups!

These green stuffs has been sitting in front of my window in a few days now. My room mates next door has utilized the space outside for a small gardening project using recycled materials. They promised to share me some cabbages soon when they harvest =)

There will be vegetables  crawling up my window soon.

Under these styro cups are containers and plastic bottles filled with water that will keep the fertilized soil moisten, so there's no need to sprinkle water everytime. Such a brilliant idea.

Eggplant seedlings in plastic bottles and styro cups.

Baby cabbages in a plastic egg tray. They will be transferred soon to the styro cups when it's time.

Bitter melon or bitter gourd growing in plastic bottles.

Yes, what you see is what you get. Swamp cabbage in cups =) The level of water under these cups are higher compare to the others to maintain the swampy soil for this specific type of plant. Swamp cabbage naturally grows in fresh water ponds but if you're away from this natural resource, then you can cultivate them in this method. Amazing idea isn't it? You can grow your own vegetables without owning a land and at the same time you save mother earth by recycling plastic materials.

Just imagine every home in the community has this type of garden, more plastic materials will be recycled and every home will be well fed with healthy vegetables.

Think Green. Live Green. Eat Green.

Clever idea. When I was a id I remember starting to grow watermelon in a little cups with tissue paper instead of soil. Can't wait to see how that garden turns out. ^^

That's nice that you had tried growing watermelon in cups. Yep anything organic will do in place of soil. Tissue papers are also healthy for plants especially when it's already used 😁
