Hi steemit, happy Monday! Let's talk plants!
Monstera (Monstera deliciosa) aka the Swiss cheese plant - The heart-shaped leaves are solid when young, but the edges of the leaves will perforate and split as they mature. Flip through your interior design catalog or scroll through Pinterest.. you can't miss the display of this plant's decorative leaves.
My sister has huge a monstera sitting in her living room and she graciously gave me a couple of cuttings. These lil babies have been sitting in water for a several weeks and the roots are now strong enough and ready to be potted up. If you try this yourself, be sure to only have the very ends of the plant sitting in water and try not to get any water in between the leaves, this will cause the plant to rot!
Notice there is very little water in the jar.
I picked a small, plastic starter pot with drainage holes. A smaller pot will allow me to keep an eye on the progress of root growth.
Fill soil up about half way. I mixed perlite and garden soil.
You only want to cover the roots. Again, if water or soggy soil gets lodged in between the leaves.. it could rot the plant.
Almost done!
One more to go...
I had to stake them so they wouldn't topple over, they are quite top heavy. When the roots grow in, I'll be able to take out the stakes and plant them into a bigger pot. I chose to place them indoors by a window that gets a good amount of indirect light.
Enjoy your monstera! Nice article.
