YOU'VE GOTTA LOVE IT!

in #gardening7 years ago

Recently, we enjoyed a tasty melon from the store.

As we devoured it, Pinkie-Pepper mentioned how much she really liked it and suggested that we save some seeds to plant. Obviously, these @little-peppers have been watching and learning!

@Papa-pepper told her that she could save some of the seeds if she wanted to, and soon she was hard at work getting some of her own to try planting this season.

It is a blessing to realize that these children know that seeds = food. As long as this melon is "stable" kind, the fruit should be true to type. If it is, then Pinkie-Pepper could start reproducing her own seeds now and may be still able to grow these melons for her children one day.

If the melon does not produce true to kind, it'll be an educational learning opportunity about hybridization and other things that can occur when breeding plants. Like many things on the homestead, it can all be a chance to learn, grow, and understand.

While some children these days think that food comes from stores, and we are not saying that it can't be found there, to take the time to teach the next generation the "simple" things in life can be a rewarding opportunity that can bring blessings for years to come.

If we do get these growing this year, we will try to keep you updated on Pinkie-Pepper's progress and results! Enjoy your garden if you have one, and if not, why not try planting something this year?

Would love to have some property were I could grow some fruits and veggies for the fam...

It is a blessing!

I love that little picture of you and your pepper family. Super cute. Have you ever thought about doing a children's book? If that is your artwork, and with your following here on Steemit, you could probably make a children's book. That could be something pretty cool, and listening to the way you read your 50 days of understanding the end times, it seems to me that you have the chops to write something like that.

That was @rigaronib, but we do have some ideas!

The joy in knowing they are not only listening and watching but understanding they are the future farmers is what you are witnessing and participating in as their parents. The role of parents in a childs life is so crucial for all of us. Little eyes and little ears learning everything...

They really do absorb it!

I took this point at heart...
Having seen city kids who haven't seen chicken before but are used to chicken meat.
It's a great thing seeing @little-pepper doing awesomely well in learning and relearning new things and their enthusiasm for environment and nature too...

Sadly, it's not just adults. We actually had an adult relative over for a chicken dinner. When she heard we were actually eating one of our own birds, she asked, "Couldn't you just buy it at the store?" Our response was, "Where do you think that meat comes from? What kind of life do you think those birds have?" Like your little peppers, my kids know where food comes from and appreciate what it takes to eat a raise and prepare a meal. They all love melons, too. :-)

Yeah, that is a sad truth, some don't grow out of it.

A handwork of a dedicated dad, loving father and as a result, great kids. Catching them young is the best

Well done Pinkie-Pepper, you have learned one of the basics of life, save a little, be it food, seeds or money, for the future. Put it somewhere safe so it will keep or grow, as required, and by continuing, you will have what you need to be a success.
Good luck with your melons for next year, I am waiting to hear the results.

That is so cool. They are taking right after their dad and learning young, which is a bonus. :D I love her smiles in the first and last pictures. :D
God bless you all. :D Have an awesome day! :D

Thank you @frostyamber!

You're so welcome @little-peppers. :D
God bless you all. :D Have an awesome day! :D

I think that this is awesome that she wants to grow her own melons. I love when kids start the thinking process, join the dots and come to an understanding!
