This Garden experiment with our cabbage patch proves without a shadow of a doubt that Neem Oil and Dr. Bronners Sal Suds works to keep insects and garden pests from destroying your plants.

I'm not a paid spokesman for this product. They have not paid me any money to endorse them. I'm just showing you what works after 3 years of use, my results are conclusive that Neem Oil and Sal Suds work great together at keeping garden pests at bay.

But what happens if you could no longer purchase Neem oil? Are Cabbages and most brassicas plants indigenous to the area in which you live? Let's explore the options of growing what works well in your area to begin with.

I've seen An American Homestead's garden in person. No bug damage to be found. It's obviously working wonders.

I can attest to this ABSOLUTELY working! I learned of this method last year from Zac and will never use anything else!

Thanks! Yeah, it really is amazing at how well it works and you know what, after using it over 3 years, this year it seems less pests are showing up...it's like they eventually gave up.

The word has spread about those up on Bauer Mtn! ;)

Will definitely give this a try. In previous years I used cheap beer alone in my cabbage patch to keep out the creepy crawlies... but this really only helps for the slugs though. Thanks for the tip.

Use the neem oil....drink the beer. :)

Thank you for this!! I will definitely be using this in the near future!

You wont regret it!

Neem is cool! I'm soaking neem leaves in water for a couple of days.. and it works! bugs are gone, leaf miners are minimized..but the downside is it smells really bad . lol :D

Yeah it does kinda stink.

That's funny, my wife JUST sprayed neem oil on our fruit trees today, probably while you making this post. I also sprayed a product that is supposed to keep the squirrel away. We'll see. @ironshield

Spraying a 12 gauge 2 3/4 bird shot works well too! :)

When living in a 1/8 acre lot in suburban Detroit, bird shot is highly frowned upon. @ironshield

That sounds pretty normal for Detroit. Normal for the STL. :)

haha! how about just some salt shells? although, hmmmm, squirrel soup? the salt would be the pre-seasoning. just sayin' ;)

I plan on giving this a try this year! Thanks for the info.

I like to sprinkle DE on my cabbage and broccoli. Works great.

I used a different brand to knock down an aphid infestation I had when I brought some chard plants inside last Fall.

I'm convinced.

Used that last year and it was a real life saver for the garden.... absolutely works !!! Great info ... thanks for sharing, Come to think of it, I'm certain I was informed about this on you AH channel. 👨🏻‍🌾

Hey thanks! I really appreciate it!

Excellent and informative post. I never heard of neem or sal suds to be honest and I've been gardening for decades. I use products from gardens alive site which is supposedly all natural and have good success with most things on there. Do you get flea beetles down there? They are extremely bad on eggplant and arugula and the only thing that sort of works for me is diatomaceous earth but as soon as it gets wet it loses its effectiveness. Just wondering if neem and sal would help with them.

I've never liked egg plant so I don't know, but neem and sal suds is a great natural way to fight insects in your garden.

I already ordered from amazon. I use 32 oz sprayers so I'll have to cut back on the amounts. Is there much danger of using too much when mixing?

Not really. Some people use one tablespoon of each for a gallon but I have always used 2.

It gets hard to measure when you get under a tablespoon. I don't mind using a little more than I need as long as it doesn't damage my plants which I doubt it will. Since I'm using a 32 oz sprayer I'll just use a little under a tablespoon of each. I'll let you know how it works for me. Thanks again.

Just make sure you apply in the morning or evening. Applying in direct sun can hurt.

Mix it in a gallon jug and fill your sprayer from that....

Now there's an excellent common sense Idea. I must be brain dead. Thanks.

Where can you purchase Neem Oil and Sal Suds? Thank you

I just bought some online from amazon.

We get ours from Boogie Brew. They have a website where you can order. Great people and they have youtube videos!

Thank you will look into that website.

Great video. Was awesome to see the side by side comparison. I will be getting some of this stuff for sure. Thanks!

Thanks! Yeah you won't regret it!
