THE PEPPERS ARE COMING!!!

in #gardening6 years ago

Oh yeah! Things are about to heat up!

The pepper harvest is about to kick off. Lots of plants are preparing to ripen, including Ghost Peppers, Scorpion Peppers, and the Carolina Reaper. In the photos below you can see how prolific the Ghost Peppers are, and you'll notice that one pepper is already turning red!

Moreover, I'll be able to do some "real" hot pepper taste tests and reviews out in the garden. You'll also notice a beautiful pepper just full of ripening fruit, but I forget which one it is at the moment. Soon enough, it'll be hard core salsa season over here! Perhaps I'll have to bring back "Papa-Pepper's Super Hot Pepper Challenge" too! I wonder if any steemians would be dumb enough to enter...

SERIOUS FOOD!

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Use caution with those Carolina Reapers, they are painful! Nice to see you're still bringing the heat @papa-pepper!!

Looking good!

Those pepper looks amazing! My father gave me a load of various peppers earlier. Their now dried out and sealed up so I will have hot peppers all winter long. :-)

Oh yes! They will keep their full heat for up to a year!

I like hot food, but I live with people who don't even care for green bell peppers. I have to admit I'm not sure I would survive eating your garden's bounty though.

Oh no! Don't even like bell peppers? What kind of people are those?

The boring kind, obviously.

those look deadly, which ones are those that are growing pointing up? I saw those planted somewhere as an ornamental and I was tempted to pick some. I have just been eating bell peppers and jalapenos from the garden, I have been burnt too many times by the habaneros ;)

I think that the seeds were marked "Medusa" but they seem to be slightly wider and different, although there are some similarities.

I mostly cook with ghost peppers. I try to use as little as possible as they have a very good flavor. A little goes a long way at least for me.
Do you like very hot food @papa-pepper?

Mmmm those all look super good - things are definitely hotting up in the pepper garden 😍

Nice post

LOL, I don't always wait until they are ripe.....
Are the other pictures a thai chili?

Not sure, as I think they were mislabeled when I got them. Supposedly "medusa," but they look different than ones I had grown previously.

I would say your right, medusa's are usually longer and slender more like a cayenne. They look like the Thai chili's that I grew last year. 2 plants made more than I could use last year so I didn't plant any this year. (1.5 ristras left)
If it is the Thai you will probably like them, they are hot, very close to a habanero with a chili taste. Probably hotter than the TM pepper, lol

Awesome pepper pics..

Looks like your pepper gardening is going well!
I've found that the "Decorative Peppers" sold at nurseries have great flavor and about the same heat as cayenne peppers. It turns out they are very close to the copyrighted McIlveny "Tabasco" peppers.

Yeah, most "ornamental" or "decorative" ones seem to bring some good heat.

Our hot peppers are just starting to turn red. Almost time for salsa, hot sauce and dried pepper flakes.

Same here! We're about to get started!

Wow they are growing like weeds! haha. Definitely one veggie I have never been into, hot peppers. but I love bell peppers. LOL :) I just don't like hot spicy food. haha

Too bad. I like my food tasty enough that you can't stop, but hot enough to make you think that you should.

hahaha :) Yeah my parents both don't like spicy food, so growing up I never had it much, I can do a little spicy, but then after that, the beads on my forehead appear and my nose runs and my eyes water...hahaha Glad you like it though! :)

Which is your favorite pepper

The Ghost. It's what really got me interested in the super hots and will always be the 'gateway pepper' for me.

How hot was it

About three times hotter than Habaneros, just over 1 million SHU.

Nice peppers. Picked up some scorpion cheddar cheese the other day , Wow was it hot !! Been slowly nibbling away at it! Anyway we will have to eat some next time your in town !!! Love you bro!!!

A good spot to share the joke I had in comedy open mic:

"Chuck Norris once did @papa-pepper's hot pepper challenge, and the pepper forfeited."
