This is one of the reasons that I love plants!
As we rotate our animals through our land to clear it, some interesting things happen. Among the other things that we feed our hogs are table scraps and some whole corn. They get more variety than that, but those two have some interesting potentials.
VOLUNTEER VIDEO
VOLUNTEER CORN & TOMATOES
Since we use whole corn as some of the feed, we are basically sprinkling corn seeds on the ground. Over time, if any of these get missed, they can actually grow!
Now, rather than just having one dry kernel of corn as food, the pigs get a whole cob worth of fresh corn, right off the stalk. However, corn isn't our only volunteer plant providing food for our pigs.
We also have several volunteer tomato plants too. These came about a different way, though, since we don't just feed dry tomato seeds to our pigs. When we give our pigs our food scraps, they eat whatever we give them. By giving them foods containing things like tomatoes, the seeds just pass through their system and then get deposited on the earth, with fertilizer.
Simply put, the pigs poop out the seeds on the dirt, and then the seeds can grow. Those plants, if left to be, can grow to produce another crop. Unlike the corn which was missed, the tomatoes were already eaten, so the pigs got food and more food, just because the seeds were allowed to be deposited on the ground. Life can be so simple some times.
THE JOY OF THE HARVEST
Now, if they are patient, the @little-peppers can wait for the crops to produce and then feed them to the pigs.
It is exciting to see how simple and fun life can be, and the willingness of plants to just be plants and live out their life cycles. Without any watering, weeding, planting, or tending, these tomatoes and corn stalks grew on their own and produced a harvest! Here are some photos of the @little-peppers enjoying feeding the pigs.

How have you been? :)
Well, it is almost 1:30 am and I'm still hard at work on the computer. Otherwise, we are all doing very well and super blessed! Enjoying (just about) every minute of it!
you can also add pet chicken .. because corn is very good for chicken ... good post. thanks.
I thought we were the Awesomes... its chill, we might just adopt @papa-pepper
Whether it is a farm or a homestead...we always seem to end up with volunteer crops. It is another chance to show to the little tykes the cycle of life, and how things work together. Good job.

What a beautiful lifestyle yours is. I too am a nature lover and have enough on my plate that brings a spring in my step every single day. The squirrels and birds have enough to eat and our birdbath is there for them to frolic
Nice,Vote me
That is some beauty in nature - feed 'em some corn, let them poop it out, and the cycle is set in motion. Awesome!
Never ending! LOL!

Corn is not just pig food.
Here where I live we eat roasted corn with sprinkled salt and red spice (I don't know word lol). It is very delicious, try it sometimes.

Thanks for this, I'm just curious, what is a volunteer plant?
I've had volunteers happen the exact same way. Don't ya love it! Okra, melon, squash and tomato seem to be the ones that really take off here.
