Garden Update: a new front lawn (Or "how to plant grass over concrete")

in #gardening6 years ago

I've always wanted to have a nice, soft, green lawn in front of my place the same as I used to have in the house where I grew up. a real one, not the plastic look-alike lawn.

Our yard used to be cattle farm and its all paved with concrete, so the whole garden is basically made of 15cm beds that I created on the concrete itself.
So all we had to do was to make a new, big bed right in front of the door, for the lawn, I did this driving my dad's old 1964 Messi Ferguson:

I used a thin layer of 15cm earth, and on top of it a very thin layer of compost, and used a shovel to stomp it down so that there will be no holes or big pointy rocks out of it, and watered it just a bit (so that its not muddy but the top is wet) before starting to lay down these cute little carpets of fresh lawn that I bought (20 meters). Dad helped.

Right after that I needed to water it heavily twice a day for about a week, and than moved to automatic watering twice a week, this is what it looks like today, after 2 weeks, you can't even see the lines between the carpets anymore! Success! :)
