My poor garden is taking a hammering

in #gardening7 years ago

Tropical cyclone Fehi has arrived and it is wreaking havoc in my garden.

My poor wee corn plants don't stand a chance.

Give the gif a little time to load o see what it's like. And yes it really is thrashing about like that. It's not just the gif making it look wild.

We have another day or so of this and then summer returns, with any luck.

It's a 50/50 call at this stage as to whether the garden will survive. The rain hasn't started yet, but when it does I think my poor corn will be history.

Next year I'll need to plant them in pots so I can bring them inside I think.

oh so unlucky... There was no way how to cover them or something?
Btw do you use whatsapp or something like that?

Any covering would have just been blown away. i did have some wind breaks there but they are long gone ;-)

I don't have whatsapp, but I am on Steemit chat if that helps ;-)

Our tomatoes are looking a bit battered. Won't be happy if we have casualities before they ripen! Stupid wind. Fingers crossed for hardy vegetables. Where are you in NZ? We are in Taupo and it's pretty wild here.

I'm in Wellington. the rain has just arrived also. The crazy neighbor came banging on my door a few minutes ago to tell me her house is getting wet from our gutters overflowing.

To be clear - she is complaining that during a storm her house is getting wet....

I hope your tomatoes make it ;-)

It really is true. We're going to have gale force winds all day, then it's going to start raining. But hopefully by the weekend, summer will be back. Luckily we don't have anything in our garden that's going to suffer.

My corn is now gone :-( Completely flattened.

I've rescued what I can (brought the pots inside), but the rest is probably going to be lost. I'm glad I'm not a real farmer today.

Awe man.. that's horrible. Very sad to hear :( Hopefully enough of them survive.

The rain arrived just after I posted this. The corn is totally flattened now. And they were looking so cute too ;-(

Oh well, there is always next year I suppose. At least I don't have to be out working in this weather .

I hope Tropical cyclone Fehi doesn't cause too much damage. We had hurricane Nate in September and he caused a lot of damage in our area. Lots of flooding and we were stranded for 5 days. I am keeping you in our prayers.

The South Island is coping the worst of it. We are just getting the edges of it here. If it wasn't for my garden getting smashed, it wouldn't really be a problem.

We are used to wild weather here ;-)

It's a bit windy isn't it?

Seems to have calmed down bit now thankfully.

But I think this is a taster of what's to come over winter. ;-(

Take that poorly plant in doors and give it some love lol :)

I wish I could. I took as many of my plats in post inside as I could, but the corn was planted in the ground. It got flattened. Totally.

I've staked it back up again, but I don't think the plants will survive. ;-(

We'll just have to wait and see,

That's a shame as you were so proud of your little corn.
Hope it comes back to life :)
