Gardening preparations start in late February for me. That is the time I start to sow seeds for all my garden needs. I do grow an abundant amount of veggies and herbs, not to mention the ton of flowers for my pollinator friends. We do need them, don't we?
As you can see from the collage I have a lot of plants started now in my greenhouse which is a double-decker by my design. The plants are growing quickly now with the longer days of sunlight.
This year I added an aeroponic system that I made to grow lettuce and herbs. Supposedly I will be able to grow 4x the amount of food than my raised bed. Let's see how I do this year. I will keep updating throughout my gardening posts.
Lastly, we are top-dressing our raised beds with three-year-old leaf compost and horse manure. This should give the new seedlings a good start. The hoops are being put in place for covering the frames for frosty nights. As you can see we are quite busy getting everything ready. Many gardens still have to be cleaned out as plants are emerging. That is next, oh my!
Let's all join in the challenge and have some fun. Here is the link:
Until next time, this is Sunscape
Sun. Scape. Ing your day
Very nice start looks like you are going have a busy growing season. I just planted some seeds the other day. My success rate is not that great so I usually just go with getting some plants as well.
Keep the seeds warm and not too wet before they germinate. That is usually the reason many fail. Best of luck with your gardens.
Looking at your pics, I just realized how much I miss sowing seeds this year. I don't have as much space as you seem to have, but I've always enjoyed growing my veggies from seeds. Guess there's always next year.
It sure looks like there will be plenty to share about your garden this year. I'm already looking forward to your stories. 👍
Thanks for joining the 🌺Garden Journal Challenge.
I have been growing for over 45 years now. I come from a long line of farming families. It is in my blood and even though I am in a larger urban area, the country girl is alive and well. lol I do my best to grow my own and share wherever needed. I will keep up with the postings on my progress.
I am in Western Mass and I see you are in Western NY. Just wondering when your last frost date is...
I begin starting seeds on March 1 for a May 31 frost date. I start about 1200 - 1500 seedlings in my kitchen and living room each year, as I don't have a greenhouse, yet....
I saw you'd been growing for 45 years! I started my first veg garden in 1992 but had done flowers for about 10 years before that.
I come from a large family of farmers so we always grew everything because we had large families. I have been working in the gardens since I was a wee lad. Anyhow, I count the 45 years as the first time I had my own gardens in my first house at the age of 20. Now, that gives my age away doesn't it? I think our last frost day is around the 15th of May. We have not had one that late in years, but we have had some very cold nights after planting out some tender annuals. I look forward to seeing some of your garden photos.
Ahhh, we are of the same age, then. :))
I tend, when I remember my camera, to take several photos each day when I am out. With the addition construction there are often 2 posts a day.
Good for you! I am only doing one post as I have tons to do around here. have a great week.
I like your greenhouse set up. How'd the aeroponic system work out?
I still have the seedlings in floating bins to create large enough roots to go into it. Perhaps next week the first round will be ready. I will do a post then to show my progress. I am excited to see how it works.
