It is a great day in the Garden of Eden, and we are giving thanks for more than enough of everything in this abundant life of freedom!
We made a delicious feast for our volunteers today, cooking over fire in our sustainable kitchen! As usual, there was more than enough food for everyone, and we are happy to share our abundance with you.
Today we made a wonderful turkey feast!
We made a big smoked turkey with sweet citrus cranberry sauce, steamed yellow & zucchini squash, sweet potatoes, and crunchy, toasty garlic bread.
All of the Eden Knights love sweet potatoes, so we steamed a big pot of them using both white and orange varieties. They are incredibly easy to prepare this way; use a fork to poke some holes in each potato, and put them in a pot with an inch or two of water in the bottom. Set it on the stove, and cook until fork tender! Then they can be sliced open and topped with whatever you like. Butter and salt is classic!

For another side, we sliced and steamed zucchini and yellow squash along with some broccoli. Once the veggies are fork tender, you can top them with anything you like as well! Butter or olive oil with salt are nice options on these veggies too. We also like to dress them up with blue cheese crumbles and slivered almonds.
When the weather gets cold, we fire up the heavy indoor wood burning stove. It is made out of cast iron and radiates heat into our common areas. We cook on the flat top while the fire also heats water for showers - super multi tasking FTW!!
When our sweet potatoes were done cooking, we had plenty of surface area left to heat a buttery baguette and some delicious chocolate chip scones.
When cooking over fire, you quickly learn which parts of the stove are hotter and better suited for cooking, and which parts are better for keeping dishes warm.
After toasting the buttery garlic bread, we sliced it but kept it on the stove to stay warm.
For our main dish today, we heated a big smoked turkey with enough meat to feed our whole community! We cook it breast side down so the meat stays tender and juicy.
Then we flip the lovely bird over for easier slicing and serving.
The most delicious part of today's dinner is that it was a free, sustainable meal with more than enough for everyone!!
Food is important, and we hope to inspire people to really take time to eat, enjoy it, and share it with someone you love. We also hope to inspire more and more sustainable practices in regards to food!
We do all of our cooking over fire, using wood that was otherwise destined to end up in a landfill! This is one of our rocket stoves in action - we built it by hand out of dirt.
Food is an honored & elemental part of our daily life in community. You can learn more about our unique, intimate, and super sustainable relationship with food here!
Photos are original to our epic feast and highlight just a taste of the thousands upon thousands of free meals we share every single year.

Sooo yummmmy and tasty
So awesome,I miss living in Costa Rica and doing 80-90% of my groceries at the all the different local farmers markets around town. Sometimes I made smoothies with like 10-12 different kinds of fruits, just because I could lol
I love this act of giving.
You gave both food to the hungry and your time also.
May you receive blessings from all sides.
