Good now, thank God. But it was a rough road. Heroin addiction, black-out alcoholism, but now sober for about ten years. Still on mood and "attention" medications, though. I don't think he can contemplate a life without drugs.
It's a shame, because he's an absolute genius with math. Went back to school as an adult. Showed up drunk for an exam and scored one of the highest marks in the state and got a letter of congratulation from the dean, even though he didn't remember taking the test.
Man, his life could become a documentary, if not a movie. Such a shame, indeed. Another true-life story of how parents can destroy their children's lives. I really don't know what to say. I just feel sorry for what he's been through and hope he has a good life from now on.
