One of the principles in 48th law of power states that "when you are forced to bow down, do so totally, so that revenge will be brutal".
Literally speaking, its doesn't mean bowing down physically only, or when you are on your kneels. This law means far greater than that and a lot more.
This law can also mean to surrender in terms of materialistic and mentally. For instance, in a movie i watched, the hero is asked to bow down and show a sign of submission, he did so without opposition. When they were later released, the son asked him why he bowed and surrendered so easily, he replied him and said, "my submission makes my revenge brutal". Anytime I remember I surrendered to someone, its ignites my passion to go further and make the person pay.
Submitting to your enemies makes them feel secure, released and fulfilled. With all these, its an advantage for you to hit him hard, he won't notice until you've hit him so hard because he/she already thought she is above you.
Submission also brings the adage "retreating make you live to fight another day".
Submission, retreat or surrender never shows weakness, its only shows that a wise fighter is the best fighter.
