A voice of reason at last. Which does not mean, that I'm saying they are harnless. Except the water they contain the exhaust fumes of the engine, including burnt oil and wear of the bearings.
And they do actually influence the climate, which became appearent after the flight ban of 9/11. The problem is - there are just far too many planes nowadays. People think its the same than using a bus.

I agree. Planes are getting big efficency improvements, but the enormous increase in flights is increasing the emissions fast. And is reasonable that those clouds has an impact as they reflect the sunlight.
Correct. But air traffic is a multi-billion dollar business, with millions of jobs. There is no chance in hell that its voluntarily limited.
And if it would be limited, the same people who now complain about con trails would complain that their freedom to travel is taken from them.
