Idea:Compact systems of different sensors from infra red camera’s to humidity sensors. An entire assortment of different detection instruments that can provide useful data. Then have all of these devices networked and their data crunched on a main computer. The obvious application is the conservation of the planet, however whose to say that we won't gain a better understanding of how various microcosms of ecology form in to their respective macrocosms for example. That's where possible geo engineering comes in. Plus they could provide free wifi. So it's kind of like if the trees had wifi sort of thing
Hmmm. Nice idea, but it won't work. The reason is that climate systems are chaotic, which means that the smallest change will change the whole system. This is what is known as "the butterfly effect". So to get any valuable result at all, you will need to put your sensors so close to one another that the cost and the disruption of the environment by the sensors themselves will make it impractical.
the complexity is enormous. the IPCC, with all of their funding, doesn't even take into account the sun, undersea volcanoes, cosmic radiation, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
it is a good idea. it would take a concerted effort by the global scientific community, and would likely end up polluted by money and power as these large scale things usually do.
