Brother's Keeper

in #get7 years ago (edited)

Last week a few friends and I had an idea. The temperature here in BHM got down to single digits. We decided to use our social media to gather donated supplies and make backpacks for the homeless in our city. We spent 3 days driving around collecting, preparing, and passing out these essential packs to the unsuspecting, very cold, and very grateful people in downtown Birmingham. Atleast 75 people who were bound to sleep outside each got "get warm" backpacks with jackets, shirts, pants, beanies, gloves, food, scarves, tooothpaste, deodorant, razors, and the general knowledge that their fellow man cares.

It is not about political affiliation, faith, race, gender, or social media ID. It's about helping people in your community stay safe. We all deserve A few basic human rights such as clean water, food, warmth, etc. After all, none of us are immune to the lack thereof.

(This post is not about patting ourselves on the back. This post is meant to inspire you to gracefully consider taking responsibility as your brothers' keeper. No person, government, or system can ever stop it. Define this as our non-violent protest to those who seek to divide and conquer mankind. Just be kind, man. Game on.)

Give, give, give....and that's how we WIN.!

Here's how you can HELP

Bravo

You SHOULD pat yourself, nothing is wrong with that, you did awesome 👍

Thanks! I appreciate that.

Good luck with everything man

The "Coop"! Doing the Kingdom, not talking about it. Nice work brother. Resteemed.

Maybe I shouldn't talk about it. Coop helped a lot. Always does.

Not at all brother. I was thinking of the difference between those who share fb memes about justice and love and those who are not just talking about it but doing. I think it was a great post.

Ok cool. I wrestled with posting it initially.

It is real. Was not self promotion. I remember we were talking or texting that very cold night.

Oh yes! We missed our Wednesday night church choir session for this.

I can attest that you gave up making groovy music to do something much more important

I. Love. You. Anyone who's doing that for people who end up with no home is a sweetheart. But for the grace of God there I go, right?

Absolutely!
