I'll start this out with a disclaimer: I don't really like this sport. I went to college for free because I am really good at this sport and I still don't like watching this sport. I played this sport my entire life and I still would rather watch the winter Olympics biathlon than this (which by the way, if you dont watch that, you should.... it's spectacularly awesome.)
That being said, i watched the final and thought it was great.
Let's forget for a minute that I don't really care about football (soccer,) and move on to the fact that I can appreciate the fact that the "rest of the world" really does care about it. Just like Slayer said: "Billions of people can not be wrong!" (the actual verse is "millions," but whatever.)
When France played against Croatia in the final my first reaction was "where is Croatia?" and was followed by I want to root for Croatia because they were underdogs. That is simply what I do in all sports unless I have an affiliation with one particular team: I like, and always will like, underdogs. So yeah; go Croatia.
I was in a bar after arriving on a late flight with a suitcase and a dog, really struggling for space the same way that Didier Drogba struggles for space only I managed to not fall down and clutch my face in agony hoping to get a free beer or something.
Here is my opine on the entire match: It was awesome and I (as someone who doesn't like football) enjoyed it a lot.
To get a 4-2 result is (and you have to admit this) very different from World Cup final results in the past. I recall when Spain was playing The Netherlands 4 or 8 years ago (this is how much I care) the end result was 1-0 and the guy who scored the winning goal for Spain was the lead singer from Iron Maiden.
if he had sang "run to the hills" and then flew everyone on a chartered flight to Iceland after scoring this goal I would have had much more respect for him
I digress. 8 years ago my Dutch friend wanted me to come to the bar and cheer (as anyone who made the final would) with his side. I had an orange kit on that he provided me with and we had a good time. There was just one problem. The end result was 1 - 0. The game (and i don't care how you feel about this sport) was incredibly boring and that just resulted in us ordering more crispy snacks - which i am sure the bar had no problem with.
The world cup final in 2018 did have great appeal to me because if you follow my stuff you will know that I am constantly upset about the shenanigans that go on during the game with diving and fake fouls. This really didn't happen much during the entire game despite the fact that Mbappe was playing.
We saw a tremendous amount of fair play and people standing up after they were knocked down without playing too many games, trying to get a free kick.
I also really liked the fact that Croatia didn't whine and moan after losing and I felt as though they "took it on the chin" about as well as any team in the history of woldcupdom has ever taken defeat. This was despite the first goal being an OG and the hand-ball being one of the other ones.
I really enjoyed this aspect of the final because I am fed up with this dramatic bullcrap and with the introduction of V.A.R. perhaps the world can finally get the theatrics out of the sport forever. If they were to accomplish that, perhaps I could take the sport seriously.
Congratulations to France (for serious) because they played a good match and for once, it seemed to be relatively free of stupid rolling around on the ground. This is a trend that I sincerely hope continues into the future.
well done France. I have no problem at all with your victory. You completely deserve it.
A diver against diving. Who knew?
I'm against flag waving generally, and typically willing to support anybody, but the chance of England reaching the final for the first time in 5 decades got to even me here at home.
Ultimately, they were fairly bettered by Croatia, which is amazing given how tiny Croatia is, making Croatia's victory even more astonishing.
England didn't dive much, I felt, but there were multiple times I did see them overegging the pudding of supposed injuries caused by fouls, particularly playing against Columbia, only to then leap off the ground, miraculously recovered, after the ref made his ruling.
I also rooted for Croatia in the final, also for the underdog rule, which I think is a typical British cultural tradition.
Or maybe the whole world simply wants David to have a chance to beat Goliath.
When it came to it, France won fair and square, and I love 'em for it.
For now, my flag goes back in the trunk in the attic, and can stay there for 4 more years. :)
wonderful contribution as always Rodney. I second your remarks about Colombia too :)
The game was quite entertaining, I think that unlike many finals played over the years, it did not have those usual controversial moves. Croatia never gave up and despite being defeated, fought until the end against a tough opponent.
you said you didnt love sports but you were so passionate and relate with the match so well that you got all the event that took place on the pitch well like seriously, though, it is easier said than done. To me I don't see Croatia as an underdog but it really went like that at the end of the match, Croatia [they] gave up almost before the could even end. Like you have said more goals in final is not that common but the case of Brazil and Germany which was actually ended 1 Vs 7 in favor of Germany.France has done the best by lifting the cup at last it wasn't that easy though but they claimed in the end.
the Brazil / Germany game was an anomaly and it was not the final. Perhaps i should have been clearer.
This even show your love and passion for sport because you are well informed, hahaha. What is your favorite sport?
Gaelic Football... but only because it is the most awesome sport ever.
I don't think I have ever heard of that though, but I respect your decision, you will surely have good reason to support that.
it isn't really my favorite sport. it is worth a google search though... have a look! :)
I'm going to do just that because I'm curious to know the sport that interest you.
I rooted for Croatia. Maybe because a lot of the people like to see the underdogs win.
I'm not saying France did not deserve to win the World Cup, I just think that the result could have easily been different.
They are both great teams though and Croatia getting into the final was definitely something that no one expected at the beginning of the tournament. So... I guess...
GG France
GG Croatia
Yeah this world cup really gave promise of progress. Promise of progress (the VAR is in and ready). Nonetheless the last 4 were awesome. I called Belgium Vs England in the final. How wrong I was.
Not sure how Belgium didn't win France but footballs football I guess. Saying that...did you see how Brazil laid into Belgium?
Cool
My reaction is that yeah France deseve the victory because they made good use of their players compare to England squad. But why people actually preferred croatia was because they had to struggle at each point before getting to the finals. Imagine going through the round of 16 and quarter finals with penalty shootout imagine the struggle in that. But they tried but the best had to win the cup.
Hmmm this final for sure qas really disappointing. Though it was decisive but it didnt either give me a feel of a world cup final. I remember spain vs netherlands in the final of 2010. The game was all wrapped up in a single goal from spain. Similar was argentina vs germany in 2014 when Mario gotze scored the decisive goal for Germany in the 115th minute. So Thanks alot for the world cup final post. I recommended you yesterday about this. If you have done this on my reminder than a huge Thanksss🤗🤗🤗🤗 from me. Though it was not much of a review. Keep up the good work.
First of all I was with netherlands in this world cup but they didn't qualify for it....This world cup final seems like one sided game....croatia have done so many mistake otherwise they could have won this world cup...own goal and penalty is what became the difference in the final otherwise both teams were deserving. I am waiting for my team india when will we see our team India first time in world cup..waiting for that moment😘
yes i m so happy my favorite team won WorldClup after 20year and yes we have no problem to France victory.. that's really good every people enjoy this worldup in world :) thank you i vote you :)
if you don't mind Please can you vote my articles :) thank you
Congratulations to France, although I was sympathetic to Croatia.
Hiii... Gooddream
Superb post. I like your explanation strategy.
I also did enjoy the final too, actually the aside the portual vrs spain game which ended draw 3:3 and england scoring lots of goals against panama this game was as thrilling and exciting as you could have expected from a game
yes it was amazing match france won the match i was just to think that only france can win the match
For me it was exciting, fair play worthy of a final, bravo for both Croatia also played very well
France played really well, deserving winners. but Croatia too played well this time.
