New album from Ghost -Prequelle: it's just awful

I am a huge fan of Ghost. I would consider them to be in my top-10 as far as bands of all time are concerned. That being said their latest album is just terrible. I don't know who it could possibly appeal to but i am not one of those people.

The new album is called "Prequelle" and I don't really even know what to say about it. I had previously raged about how incredible the first released track months ago was. This track is called "Rats" and after hearing the rest of the album I am convinced it is likely the only song on the album worth listening to. This is coming from someone who has been a fan of them for a long time too. It is really just that bad.

The thing that made Ghost special is the fact that they were on the fringe of metal with an (obviously fake) satanic edge. Their songs sounded like something you would hear in church (if you are a church-goer) yet their music was almost exclusively about satan. They had a metal edge but were melodic enough to be considered, I dunno, something else.

The thing that has always made Ghost fantastic still does: They are shrouded in secrecy as to who their members are and only the singer ever even has his / her face exposed. The rest of them always wear masks. They have no names in the credits other than pseudonyms and everyone involved avoids fame and in the meantime just makes great music.

I have always believed this until now. Ghost really let me down with Prequelle. This album sounds like (as my Scottish friend said to me today) "pure pop cheese." I agree with him. The music has almost zero metal edge to it now and of the 10 songs on the album (of which only 8 are actual songs rather than musical interludes) only 2 of them stand out as anything even remotely good: These are "Rats" (the first song released) and I'll leave it up to you about the other one - but trust me, it is a massive letdown.

The way I feel now is that perhaps Ghost has run its course and this is the beginning of the end. If this album was an attempt to go more mainstream and gather more fans then it will fail at this. If it was a "we have to make a new album because the record label is forcing us to!" situation, well.... that is certainly what it sounds like.

Gone are the days of "Monstrance Clock" and "Square Hammer." This new sound they have is almost metal-free and unfortunately "Rats" is the only truly shining grace on the entire album. I would imagine they will tour and try to save some face from releasing this garbage but (and i say this as a die-hard fan) I feel as though they will be playing an awful lot of their older material since the new stuff is trash. This is reminiscent of when Metallica released the St. Anger album knowing full well that it was awful.

This is the other song on the album which is worth listening to other than "Rats" and it isn't even a song by them. It is a remake of a Pet Shop Boys song

it breaks my heart to write this

I'm not such a huge fan of Ghost, although it was kinda exciting when Rats was released. Sure, it was different, but it's good. Unfortunately, it's the best song on the album & really the only one you'll put in playlists or on repeat.
As a themed album, it is good. The lyrics are dark & the music is light. My biggest issue is this is a largely forgettable album. With the exception of one or possibly two songs, the rest will not get another listen.
To clarify, this album isn't terrible by any means, it's just not as powerful as past Ghost albums. And no, I'm not a metal-purist looking for Opus 2.0. However, another fast-paced song (not even heavy) would've helped this album out tremendously. As it stands, I might listen to the album in full a couple more times & then it will get left behind. Rats will be the only song making it to other playlists.

Looking at your rating anyone can says you don’t want to hear it again I’m I right @gooddream

But I likes it something different

am i right ?
you have an experience to see it first .@gooddream this album is look like full of horror

It was a great story of ghost

Prequelle, i heard this album of the ghost band and it isnt much reliable, rather i would say it is not worth watching. It is just a waste. You wont just get to know what the song is about. Yeah seriously the song 'Rats' was far better not best though. Apart from their costume and that metal faced mask, the band is on its knees for me. Thanks for sharing.
