There are a lot of people out there that are desperately clinging to their fanboi-dom about how the revenant is a wonderful class and should definitely be tried / played by people that are involved in Guild Wars 2.
I personally would say that this class is unnecessary, and you don't need to play it, especially since as a new player on the free-version of the game you wont be able to select it anyway.
To be honest, I don't really even know what a revenant is, and while i found it fun to play it for a little while, I didn't find it terribly useful in the long-run. Perhaps this is because I am a casual player, perhaps it is because this wasn't available the first 3 years the game existed and was added as an incentive for people to "upgrade." If you look at the recent forums, you will be hard-pressed to find someone that is talking about how the Revenant is the perfect toon for something something something. Because it isn't.
I truly believe that the revenant was created in order to give already existing players a reason to jump the gun and pay 20 to 50 dollars more in order to be the first ones to level-up a revenant. The expansion was coming and with it came a new character class, one that offered really no real advantage to having them in the group. Once the expansion had come and gone well, there weren't many people playing as the revenant class.
I won't call Revenant a "beginner class" because it isn't even available to anyone playing the free version of the game. Once you decide to upgrade to the full-version (if you do) playing the Rev means a full restart to zero to have a go at it.
There might be some people out there that will tell you that the revenant is a great class but I have never met these people. Most of the traits that the Rev does well, is done better by someone else (another class) and therefore I can't recommend it.
However if you feel differently and have a real reason for feeling that way, i welcome you response and I will eat my words. If you are a new player (and keep in mine that this game is completely free to download and play) I would say stick to the base classes of Warrier, Guardian, Necromancer, or Mesmer to start off in the GW2 world. Save the Revenant for the experts. I truly believe it was designed to placate them and is all but unplayable for a newbie.
Lore-wise, yes Revenant is basically just a Shaman mixed with Necromancer.
As for why you'd want to play one... it'd probably because they're the jack of all trades in heavy armor (with Elementalist being the light armor one, and Engineer being the medium). They have great damage options, great support options, and great control options. Similarly, they can do quite a bit of different things within a single build and can even specialize in quite a bit of options at the same time (ie. they're not just a second rank X because their ability to do Y is nearly on par with X despite having more options). Their trade off is that they have an involved energy mechanism for using effects, but that largely isn't that difficult to figure out on a pretty solid level (and really is something that makes them more appealing if anything, as being different is nice).
hmm good i agreed
Hiii... gooddream
Great post.

Games are always a mean of fun either you know How to play or not. But it's a great way got me to spare my time with games. I love to play difficult one game as like this one.
Hey there. Alright, I love MMO's but I haven't played GW2 but I'd loive to ask your opinion: what's the best class to begin with both as a melee and range (wizard-like) class in there? I play a lot of blade and soul and my favorite class is the Blade Master. Also my wife's fave class is the warlock, so we wanted to start GW2 soon.
almost every class is able to melee and range. I think that if that is what you are after perhaps give ranger a go. There is no "wizard" class in GW2 really. elementalist might be close but they can not swap weapons mid-fight.
Oh yeah, I heard everything depends on the wep. I am looking a more tank-oriented setup to begin with. Then I'll se if I get a good 'ol kill-hungry assasin type or something.
awesome concept sir..i like this..thanks for share your inportant concept.
Revenant. So this is the new character in the upgrade of guild wars too. I am not much satisfied with it. The reason behind is its uselessness in a long run also being not available in the free version. Perhaps i dont whether i will enjoy it or not because iam not a casual player. Still i think if it is available in the beginner version. Then it might be fun to play. BTW what are its powers. The revenant. Any special feature?.

I supose that if that does not add anything relevant to the experience of playing the game it is totally unnecessary and maybe just a cash grab
REVENANT!! It is not a worthy character to be included in guild wars and if it is such special that not included in the free version. Then I think the makers are out of there mind. Though it's my opinion and many would have liked it. It's exciting to play but useless over longer terms. They should have included some special thing on the update. REVENANT sucks..
