Thundarr the Barbarian: i bet you don't know who that is

in #getyerlearnon6 years ago

Back in the 80's we were completely subjected to whatever the television people decided to show us and they very rarely showed us Thundarr the Barbarian.

It was a saturday morning thing and if you are younger than 30 or so you can't really even relate to that so let me give you a trip down time-travel-lane.

Years ago, you didn't just have whatever-the-hell-you-happen-to -be-looking-for available on youtube or whatever the crap else. You instead relied on a group of people who maybe made cartoons to deliver what it is that you were looking for and in the 80's anyway, that time as a kid in the 80's was Saturday morning.

you would watch tv like this if your parents were assholes and had an unnecessarily elevated TV

Thundar the Barbarian was an extreme rarity in the early 80's, to the point where I don't think there are even that many toys created about the franchise. He had a light-sabre of sorts (I can't imagine where that would have come from) and a furr-covered friend who was really strong (again, i have no idea where they would get this idea) and a lady.....

I can't close the < center > and i have no idea why so i will just continue to explain what was awesome about this series- if you can even call it that, in the 80's.

This cartoon was attached to other cartoons and only existed for a few years. Thundarr was a He-Man type character that was not to be trifled with. Anything that he got involved with well, ended in his favor. I am certain had this persona carried on a few years beyond the 2 years that he was granted, they could have introduced a better character.

It was really fun in the 80's to have an affiliation towards something that wasn't mainstream. I think that a lot of people do that these days but likely not in relations to Thundarr.

i was and nevertheless am a massive fan of each Thundarr the Barbarian and the Herculoids. Even sold all the figures of both businesses when they got here out some years in the past.@gooddream

that is so awesome if it is true. good work

I remember this cartoon but as you said, it was a rare one. I have more memories of the herculoids

I'm just coming across this cartoon, and after reading your review.. I had to do little research about it. I must say this had to be one of the best animated shows of the early 1980's. The plot is pretty simple; a barbarian, a witch and a mutant creature known as a mock travel across the United States a thousand years after a disaster destroys most of the world. They go around fighting wizards and other assorted creatures in hopes of bringing order back to the world. This main thing I love about this show is the fact that it is not like most of the animated shows at the time that felt they had to give a weekly ethics lesson. This show is a just pure action from start to finish and it is simply just great entertainment without any hidden messages. I think this show will always stand the test of time and will always be recognized as a great action/adventure series.

Interesting story. I like watching cartoons too. Thanks for sharing

When i was a little kid , i always love to watch cartoons. Sitting on flour was a great experience. Those were the unforgettable memories. Your post reminds me a lot of things of my childhood.

Thundarr The barbarian. I have not heard of this one but i think that it must have been a nice time killer and enjoyment for kids at the time. That time wasnt the same as now. You had no phones but that old microwave type TV. It was pretty enjoyable and provided with great fun to the watchers. I also agreed with the fact that they should have included other characters may be a group along with thundar. Thanks for sharing.
