Super newb: welcome.
After reading some great posts about getting gifs in Steemit, I arrived at my own solution. I hope it's helpful.
For (Instagram) video, start with Part A.
If you're simply trying to get a gif on Steemit, skip to Part B.
Part A
- You have a video somewhere. You need to make it a gif for Steemit.
- Go to a video->gif site, such as imgur
- Create a 'New Post' and either upload the video, or paste the video's url, if it's on, say Instagram
- Select the range of the video on imgur at the bottom of the video with the white '+' sign & in/out points, creating a green area, click 'Create Gif'
So you've got a gif. Pat yourself on the back.
Here's the confusing part:
Part B
- Get the gif URL. This may not necessarily be the URL in the browser address window.
- For imgur, click on your account name dropdown, select 'Images'
- Click on the image/gif you just created.
- You'll see a list of URLs: Image Link, Direct Link, etc. Choose 'Original Link' which should end in .gif If you don't see 'Original Link', try copying the URL from the address bar and add '.gif' at the end.
- If you're on another site, try right clicking on the gif and choose 'Save Image Address'
- Reply if you're still confused and I'll happily help out.
