A Good Morning Storm

The child stands on a hill.
She sees the world around her,
Sleeping still,
As the dawn breaks over the horizon.

The stars in the night sky
Twinkle with wonder.
What is she going to do? They ask amongst themselves.
In the distance, rumbling thunder.

The child dips her fingers into the brook.
It’s as cold as ice.
It bubbles, babbles, and bends into a hook,
A storm is coming.

The wind picks up
And blows through her loose hair.
The stars whisper to each other,
She is rare!

A smile flashes across the girl’s face
Just like lightning.
She’s decided—she will brave this sleepy world,
Even though, to many, it’s frightening.

See, it’s her life
That is the storm upon the horizon ahead.
It’s electric, like the storms of Catatumbo!
She cannot-no she will not dare!
Choose the sleepy life instead.
