Understanding God

in #god6 years ago

Man is ever after seeking gods whose attributes he can identify with his own self in certain ways. This, while forgetting his own creation. It is in the nature of the beast. So, when turning to the skies, he generally imagines a deity akin to what he happily serves--power, pelf, the rulers--in everyday life; only on a larger scale. It is here that he errs into confusion and, thereby, attributes to the Creator temporal and contrived nuances.

But as we learn from the Quran (and other divine scriptures), the concept of Deity can be understood only if we are able to distinguish the Creator from the created. That is, Him from all the rest. All His attributes, therefore, must be recognized under this sole criterion that God is Sublimely [Lateef] above such comprehension human mind is capable of.

The following Quranic verse strikes at the root of this perplexity:

“[For, no true understanding of God have they when they say, "Never has God revealed anything unto man." Say: "Who has bestowed from on high the divine writ which Moses brought unto men as a light and a guidance, [and] which you treat as [mere] leaves of paper, making a show of them the while you conceal [so] much - although you have been taught [by it] what neither you nor your forefathers had ever known?" Say: "God [has revealed that divine writ]!" - and then leave them to play at their vain talk.]” (6:91)

See, [true] faith is one; [false] beliefs are many.
