The Bible makes this concept of the power of our thoughts clear and simple: as a person thinks inside, that will become outside. Our character becomes the sum total of all our thoughts. As the plant springs from the seed and could not exist without it, every act of a person springs from the hidden seeds of his thought. A thought is a seed that grows not only in an action but also in an emotion. In fact, a state of emotional turmoil can be a good thermometer to indicate what your way of thinking is predominantly centered; and that negative and harmful thoughts are influencing your life. The soul attracts those desires that it keeps secretly, those things that you love and that which you fear. We do not attract the life we want, but what we are. The soul attracts what it secretly houses.
We think that our thoughts can be kept in the secret cave of our mind, but it is not like that. We believe: "These are just thoughts, how can they affect my life?" The thoughts of our lives become habitual patterns of behavior. I encourage you to decide today to do what Paul encourages us when he writes to the Philippians: Set your thoughts on what is true, honorable, correct, pure, charming and admirable. Think of things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Decide today to live free of negative and harmful thoughts; replace them with the thoughts of God.
