It’s a great hobby, it really is. I’m fairly new to it considering the real veterans have decades of experience. There’s something really special about caring for something like that- I just love it.
Sadly I lost all mine years ago. I was living in an apartment with all my trees on the back deck. I tarps and shadecloths to protect them from the afternoon sun. There was a windstorm this one summer day while I was out of town. When I got back the tarp was torn off and all the bonsai trees where fried. A couple survived, struggled along, and eventually died too. My favorite was a manzanita bush that I dug in the wild. It had the most beautiful red bark. It was a pretty sad day to say the least...
I’m telling you right now - I may have cried. Loosing something that you’ve worked hard on or even just taken care of for a long time is tough. For me it’s a strait up loss.
It was pretty tramatizing.
