Since no currency is backed by gold and I don't believe that the US government has a lot of credibility left, it may only lead to something along the lines of: "Gold is no longer the corner stone of our economy, and the quantity we have is no longer critical".

I agree. You know what I find fascinating about gold. I read an article a long time ago and they were saying the only real world true usage for gold is two things, people held value to it only because it was rare but now a days not so rare seeing they know they could easily mine a ton of it in space. Second and only Earth realm value, its a great conductor for electricity, so lets sort this out, how about we put gold to use for our technologies, give crypto a mainstream use and use the gold in the circuit boards. I am sure then we can just begin a new view that makes sense for value lol.
