it's easy to call these people dumb - but then when was the last time a total stranger on the street wanted to hand you 10 oz of silver? Still if it is free with no strings attached and the choice was a chocolate bar or large chunk of metal - I would take my chances with the metal claiming to be silver - you could always toss it if it's fake.
