Helios is a cheap lens made mostly for analog cameras and it was made in great numbers. You can find few versions of Helios 44 and i think you can do this on all of them. If you are living in Europe you probably have more luck as you could find it for 15-20$ because cameras that had this lens were widely used here. Here in Serbia you could find it with a working Zenit camera for 20-25$.
And don't be scared, it is not that hard to modify it :) And the process in the video is fine you can just be more careful :)

The video is awesome that it can make. I think I am going to order a second one and then modify that one so that I don't have to switch the lens back and forth. The modified look is cool, but I would still want crips looking pictures as well with not so much swirl effect, so having two lenses would be best for me. Awesome job on the video.
thanks. well you should try it out without modification and if you like it enough to use it regularly then buy a second one, if not just mod it and use it for fun.

Ja imam 44-2 i cak pise gelios a ne helios. Pokusavao sam da izvadim to prednje socivo al nemoguce je, barem na ovom objektivu koji ja imam. Nista nisam nasao da odvrnem ili slicno.
koliko sam ja ukapirao u istrazivanju 2 bi trebalo da je najlakse modifikovati. trebalo bi da imas dva zljeba odmah kod sociva, kad to okrenes skida se taj deo i socivo
To sam pokusavao da odvrnem, al nece. Cak sam malo i sjebao jedan zljeb kolko sam pokusavao da odvrnem.
slicna situacija je bila i kod mene, prvi put sam ga jedva rasklopio

Jeste гелиос , ja ne mogu to da odvrnem nikako. Da li je zapeklo ili su taj deo zalepili, nece nikako napolje.

Also and I have modified this lens but in my case, I've flipped fron lens...
This way it can produce totaly weird pictures.
