Goodbye Steemit

in #goodbye8 years ago

This will be my last post on steemit. The longer i'm here the more i realize that steemit is more about self promotion and ego worship instead of intelligent conversation. Being a socializing center this was to be expected but i had higher hopes, most posts are empty drivel, just like facebook, with memes and personalized sell out attempts of promotion that repeat what could be read elsewhere if one was truly wanting to research their own thoughts, to where maybe some have the time and patience to deal with this but i do not.

There are three main types of intelligent conversation. The low level is when conversation centers around people, the mid level is when conversation centers around events, and the high level is when conversation centers around ideas. I was hoping for the later to be the concentration point rather than the first two, but the longer i'm around the more i see of the low and mid level, which just adds more frustration to my life. I was hoping for an escape and instead found additional stress. Not to mention that i think this site is a scam of sorts to possibly make money like a pay to click site being hidden within a social platform to fool people into clicking on embeded adds which make the owners cash while leaving the rest to feel like they are chasing a dream and are part of a movement when there is truly no movement at all.

Good luck to all here, i'm done wasting what little time i have already wasted on this meaningless project of self indulgence.

I voted you up for expressing your opinion and ideas.

All social media platforms are only as good as the people you follow.

Maybe you need to follow more interesting people.

Go. Leave. Goodbye.

I have a bit of a concern with your accusation that Steemit is a scam though. You compare this site to paid to click sites. I have been on many of those since 1996 so I have a bit of experience with them. First of all, those are scams. You click an ad and wait up to 30+ seconds to earn 1/10 of a cent and repeat in hopes to accumulate the several dollar minimum payout.

Steemit is nothing like that. You like something, upvote it, comment on it, share it. Guess what, most of those things make the author a bit of cash, and some of that comes back to you. How is that like paid to click sites?

Second, how many paid to click sites let you cash out after as little as 24 hours and depending on how popular your writing is, cash out quite a bit of money.

Granted, when I first joined Steemit, I made a whopping buck in the first month or two here. I only recently started writing in different categories about things that were popular. Guess what happened. I started making money. You may call this self promotion and the like but I call it giving the readers what they want - content in a genre they like. That is just part and parcel to anyone's success - you have to give the fans what they want or you are not going to make any money.

So, with that said, your leaving will have little impact on Steemit or the members here. If you wish to stay, great. If you wish to leave, go. Either way, you don't have to announce it in a self promoting manner while bitching about self promotion being the only way to make money here, if at all.

More for us :)

I liked your post. Ummm...you can have conversations with people either in the chat, or where I and others like to do it in the replies section. Perhaps you did not know this but reply conversations can go on quite aways. So before you truly leave...have you tried that and like me, originally I did not care what I made, then I hit some high posts and well want more of those but have not hit it in awhile...why did I not care? I knew my computer was hacked and so I put the posts here so there was a copy of what I wrote that could not be stolen or destroyed...that is why I still do it

Even if that were true isn't it better on steemit because of a lack of censorship?
