I think I am ready to power down and move on.. Good bye #Steemit.

in #goodbye8 years ago (edited)

I caught this quote from @dan in another thread:

" The whales are actively seeking out people to promote up the ranks. We have no incentive to be a majority holder of a small puddle. We would much rather be a minority holder of a giant ocean. All that matters is that we grow from a puddle, to a pond, to a lake, to an ocean.

Whales are small in the grand scheme of an ocean of fish. "

The whales have made it quite clear to me that they do not need me here with valuable posts like this :

https://steemit.com/steemit/@worstdevever/what-are-curation-rewards-and-how-should-i-be-voting
Which garnered close to a 100 upvotes but only $10 ..

Or this one, where I spent money building a tool for steem and did not even get enough to cover my hosting fees.. :
https://steemit.com/steemit/@worstdevever/if-you-can-t-beat-them-join-them

... With the amount of upvotes my posts have received I am almost 99% sure they have read them.

I have even been slogging it out and trying to add value where i can such as with posts such as this one : https://steemit.com/steemtips/@worstdevever/editing-your-post-masterclass-with-worstdevever

But still the whales upvote shitty posts and let them walk away with 1000's never to look back on the platform ...

When my first post made money on here I my thoughts where "Finally, something in the crypto community I can add great value too as before I have felt as though I was under skilled enough to program complicated things. My English is my first language and my writing skills are strong. I can type pretty fast and so thought I had finally found my "place".

My aim here was to become a #steemit whale and help curate and build something I could tell my kids about and perhaps I still will. But it most likely will be a story of how I made $3600 introducing myself on a website and not how I created amazing content and took over the world!

So it with a sad farewell I say Goodbye.

You may think.. Wow that was fast.. @worstdevever did not last long and in his last post he was saying how he was so positive and wanted to become a whale.. Well yeah , Crypto moves fast and the more I see whales upvoting trash and skipping over my posts the more it solidifies my thought process of them just not wanting me to be a part of there journey.

I respect that. .

I thought they would be upvoting posts that where original, awesome and helped the community while also making sure to vote for people that are going to stay on board and curate and be a valuable #steemian.

But alas I was wrong. They have mainly been voting for posters that clearly do not know crypto very well and are probably just selling out as soon as they get the cash... IMO they should have carefully chatted before hand and come up with a better game strategy, on-boarding long term valuable members rather than get rich quick #introduceyourself , fund my next holiday #travel and "thanks steem I just had a shopping spree on your account!" posts.

So I will most likely check in every few days as a fly on the wall and perhaps come back as a poster once the middle class grows. ..

Time for me to power down...

Sort:

If this is your attitude 3 days after making $3,600 on one post, this place is probably better off without you.

Agreed a lot of people would say, that, that kind of money is a fantastic sustainable future! Something to really build on! This is not a place for greed! Boom!

Did you even read the post? I am more disillusioned by the content that makes it and the content that doesn't.

Well , if that's the case, why don't you invest more in steem power and become a small whale? Once you have enough, you can make any content you approve of and any post visible with one vote. And on another hand, powering down will keep you tied to steemit for another 104 weeks.

It's way too encouraged to spew bullshit to appease whales around here.

bacchist is a perfect example, based on his post history it seems hes found a way to make a living entirely off of reiterating popular thought on anything that could be interpreted as trolling, even if it really is just constructive criticism.

His entire 9-5 job is now to be a troll for trolls who might disagree with the whales for a shot at some brownie points.

Disgusting.

Yep, He may think I am ungrateful, I am not, the money has actually changed my life. I have just been in crypto long enough to give my advice and see how things are working out.. Quite frankly I wish the currency was still worth a lot less so that this whole greed thing wouldn't be a factor. Maybe we should fork it and make a community edition with an airdrop for all steemian minnows. :P

And instead of starting a discussion about it you going to chase more money out of the system with replies like this. The Up votes on your comment affirms it.

@bacchist comment nails the matter perfectly. Your feeling of entitlement is ludicrous. Go get a real job to see how "sweet" business is out there, and let us know what company you found who will pat your head and give you a hug when you come whining because your manager and your team are not giving you a standing ovation each time you send a mail and that the team has only granted you 4k of bonus pay in 3 days. You may think I'm pushing the caricature a bit far, but that's exactly how this post comes across from my perspective.

Have you seriously looked at your post with critical eyes?

Page 1: photo of a whale (there are hundreds of posts showing photos of whales on Steemit, that starts getting boring)
Page 2: the same dashboard you posted many times already that is good but hardly anything new
Page 3: cartoon animated GIF (thousands of them ad nauseam, we are sick of animated GIFs)
Page 4: finally, your tool, but by this point everyone has already given up hope of seeing interesting content, and the picture is easily interpreted as yet another google map snapshot like there are already many around that don't add much value.

Bottom line, the reason that post didn't take off is that you have deliberately diluted the main point of your post with irrelevant and unoriginal distractions that made your post look unstructured and unoriginal. There are thousands of posts per day, nobody has the time to read everything so people skim first and read only what catches their eyes. First impression is supremely important. Depending on their first impression people will decide whether to give more attention to the post or move on to next post.

To the people saying he's being impatient.... I think what he's more importantly pointing out is that currently CRAP is getting flown to the top by the whales and good valuable content is a lot of times ignored... although I've seen both sides of the coin... it's almost like gambling... I've seen funny posts or marijuana posts just sit stale and I've seen some get the crap upvoted out of them by whales.... BUT I've also seen the techy bitcoin/steem posts go crazy in upvote$ as well.... so I guess it sounds like thus far HE has gotten a raw deal.... but yeah it's so lopsided right now it sucks that you can get 50 or 100 upvotes and get 1 - 3 cents.... that's kind of stupid. Or you can get 10 upvotes and get a thousand dollars.... hmm..

I think the part that kind of grinds my gears is when a hot chick puts herself on the site and is like OHAI STEEMY I'M NEW TO THE SITE wearing a bikini or low-cut shirt and the whales are like UPVOTE UPVOTE UPVOTE UPVOTE!!!!! That makes the GUYS on the site or the chicks that aren't a smoking 10 feel like they should go elsewhere or just stay with Google Adsense.....

This is probably the first time these whales have had any attention from hot girls.. They will learn quick these chicks just want their money though. hahahaha

It's hilarious to see myself, an investor have to spend hard earned cash for Steem and to see my investment get 5x'd by a new poster every hour.

Well good luck.. Hope it is sustainable and keeps some people on board long enough. . See you in a few months.

Why are you so impatient ?
Leave the small fishes some time to power up.

Yeah, this crazy experiment just started!

I wish you the best in your endeavors. Hopefully the system will balance out and it will be more worth your time.

Thank you. Good luck with the steeming. Catch you in a few months.

You post your idea and in one day you have given up. That tells us a lot about you. The problem is not with STEEM my friend. You may not be cut out for this type of work. Not a bad thing.

one day.. lol no. I have spent over 100 hours working on steemit

Without any sleep????

pretty much bro

Don't give up man .... Just keep on reposting your post !!!

Thanks but I don't really like spamming.

Hang in there. It's quite obvious there is still not enough incentive to create great content and build reputation, but that is the direction most people want it to go. We'll get there man, hang tight.

Yeah I will come back in a month or two and see if things are better.. Best of luck
