This old saying is in fact true, nowadays, people normally prefer large rewards over smaller rewards and the more you wait ,better things comes to those who are patient.
And i also think that it can be accurate but it all depends on how we interpret it.
In my 1st. interpretation,
1.Just waiting for good things to come you is a recipe for failure because if we repeat this saying without giving much thought *we do not know exactly what those good things are. *we do not know also when exactly will those things come to us-maybe we will die before it happens.
There is a short filipino story about a boy waiting for a fruit to fall from the tree, and because he is lazy he did not climb the tree, instead he just wait the fruit to fall, fell asleep, until the bird came by, ate the fruit and pooped the boy and since when the bos was sleep he did not realize that he opened his mouth the poop fell straight into his mouth, that was the sad part and a bit gross. I think that is somewhat means to those who wait, its treacherous and awful because a lot of things in life goes by when you wait and you must take some actions to get it.
2.My 2nd interpretation is *there are some things or someone in life is worth waiting.
Work patiently until that good things come by your road in life.
A patient seeker will be satisfied in due time; patience is a virtue.
