‘Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?’ (John 9:1-2)
Under the Law, sin was paid for either by the one who sinned or by someone else. When David committed adultery with Beersheba, he prayed and asked for God’s forgiveness. Even though God didn’t punish him in person, the child died as a result of his sin.
The Law demands that men pay for their sins; this was the clause that the Old Testament hung on. When Moses was given the Law, God told him this, “…The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, BY NO MEANS CLEARING THE GUILTY, VISITING THE INIQUITY OF THE FATHERS UPON THE CHILDRENAND THE CHILDREN'S CHILDREN TO THE THIRD AND THE FOURTH GENERATION” (Exodus 34:6, 7; NKJV).
A curse is the direct consequence of breaking the Law and it visits even to the fourth generation. This is where generational curses came from. Note that the punishment required by the Law does not come based on ‘who’ God is in character. God is merciful, kind, forgiving and abounding in goodness and truth; but the Law requires that the guilty CANNOT be cleared without punishment.
This is why Jesus was asked by His disciples when He came to the man that was born blind, “…who sinned?” The Law had taught them that the punishment for sin can be passed on from one generation to the other. Jesus' answer, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that THE WORKS OF GOD should be revealed in him” (John 9:3; NKJV), is very significant.
God was using this man’s case to reveal ‘His’ works. What is God’s work? It is the finished work of Jesus on the Cross which ushered in His grace. Hebrews 4:3 says, “…the works were finished from the FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD,” and Revelations 13:8 makes us know that the Lamb was slain from the foundations of the world; thus, God’s work is the Lamb slain. The slain Lamb is the basis of the New Covenant; and in the New Covenants in has been fully paid for.
Beloved, today the clause upon which this New Covenant hangs is found in Hebrews 8:12 and it says: “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and THEIR SINS AND THEIRLAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE.” That reads exactly as the opposite to the old. This is the clause God has with the believer today in Christ Jesus. Concerning the blind man, the finished work was revealed in his life. When he heard what Jesus said, he was freed by the truth that God wasn't punishing him for the sin of his fathers, and then he got healed.
Here’s the good news: God no longer visits the iniquities of the fathers on the children, because Jesus has fully paid for it. As a child of God, there is no generational curse on you today. You are blessed because of Jesus. Look at Him today as the full price for whatever wrong done in your lineage and become everything His Word says you are. You are free. Your Lineage is heavenly now. You are Zionite now.
Thought Line: the curse has been forever reversed by the once-and-for-all-sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
Say this with me: my lineage is not of this world. I am of heavenly origin, a lineage of grace. I belong to Christ Jesus and he has paid the full price for all my sins. I am free because of the finished works of God in Christ Jesus! This year is my year of wealth and glory! I chew wealth and glory! I sleep on wealth and glory! And I vitally manifest wealth and glory!
