It's funny, the government was shut down for three days and I didn't notice. That's why these shutdowns are a dangerous game, they demonstrate how little we actually need them.

Isn't that the truth. I remember being laid off from my job in the early 80's, and I was not happy about it. But of course, I did not understand much of anything about the way of the world back then. Oh how I wish that I had known then what I think I know now. However, I was able to smarten up just a little bit and it is one of the reasons I left government service long ago.

I went to the store the other night and one of the girls there asked me if I had any idea when the government shut down would be over.
I had no idea that "the government" had shut down (sorry, no cable news and I don't turn into licensed media...), which I told her.
I then followed up by stating that now I could visit federal parks and other areas guarded by federal government employees and that with any luck "the government" would never start back up again.
The look on her face was priceless.

HAHA dude it´s really weird a country paralizes just because the congress of America dont aprove the budget for next year in Europe that doesn´t happen :)

The government is broken and corrupt a shut down is just business as usual even people stealing your money need a day off occasionally.
The main stream news noticed it and tried to milk it to boost their failing ratings but I think people are getting a bit more wise.

Obama deliberately tried to do as much harm to the country as possible to blame the republicans. He stopped tours of the White House and put up fencing around the national mall. The National Mall is just a grass park that stretches from the Lincoln Memorial to the Capitol. It cost money to put up those fences. Why we have these budget confrontations with the debt ceiling is absurd. Nobody intends to stop spending and nobody intends to pay off the debt. Debt ceilings are always raised, why pretend anyway ?
It is mentioned in the news here in Belgium! But well hidden of course behind all the other crap...

Haven't been watching TV for over 6 years and I don't follow anyone who cares about the the people who have been running the usa government under for many years so I didn't even know it was shut down. I got a speeding ticket when the government was shut down. Oh wait, the police force is a corporation and they don't follow the Constitution.
They shouldn't have reinitiated Government action after the shutdown. :-(
