What is Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is a domain in which uses computers and datasets for complex problem solving (IBM Cloud Education). From movies, artificial intelligence takes on the form of human-like robots. One main example from a movie that comes to my mind is Jarvis from Iron Man, which is the computer system that runs Iron Man's suit. In actuality, artificial intelligence takes on many other forms. These include self-driving cars, different methods of financial or media monitoring, and many more tools that improve life problems.
What Makes Artificial Intelligence Seems Scary
Many movies make artificial intelligence seem scary. The robots created in those movies turn bad and try to take over the world. In Iron Man, there is Ultron, an artificial intelligence system turned evil, tries to do the same thing after being created for the purpose of solving world problems. Along with this is a fear of superintelligence, a hypothetical level of intelligence that is smarter than a living human can be. It must be remembered that there has always been and will be a general concern for new products of technology. Another fear that comes from artificial intelligence is its possibility for replacing many jobs and creating a large and significant increase in unemployment. While I cannot say much on the unemployment because I do not have a background in economics, I can see how an increase in artificial intelligence could directly translate to a decrease in employment. Halting or limiting the research and development of artificial intelligence would seem to be wrong, but so does unemployment. I would hope that by the time artificial intelligence takes over a lot of jobs, there would also be a solution to the unemployment it would cause.
