Week 08 Response -- Reclaiming Federalism to Sustain a Divided Nation

in #gradnium3 years ago

This entry is in response to the question, "What are some of the economic benefits of federalism?" posed by @stonemasoner.

Federalism offers governmental control over what is best for our nation's well being. Due to the way federalism operates, citizen participation is highly encouraged and leads to more opportunities for equality as society has the choice whether or not they want to make themselves heard. Since our country has granted us the right to vote, we can express our beliefs by those we elect and our opinions are more likely to be heard. While federalism suggests national control, it also gives each state the opportunity to take charge over what is best for themselves. Every state has their own set of various needs and federalism is a great solution towards accommodating for those needs. For example, public education funding, cost of living, social welfare systems, and other specific needs can be addressed however each state chooses, rather than running everything by the federal government first. Overall, the United States is very fortunate to operate under federalism where the federal government has our best interest in mind, while still allowing us to express our own opinions and have our own rights as well.
