some weeks ago i was travelling and i visited Lisbon... It is a beautiful city with a great history and nowaday famous for one of the Streetart Capitols of this world.
As in every big city everything is changing... living inside the city is getting much more expensive then some years ago.
I think all the "Flavour" and many of the abandoned sights will be gone in up to 10 years...With all the Old n Rusty Buildings also the Graffiti will disappear or it will be put out in more controlled ways .
I mean it is always the same - first everything is a littlebit fucked up- then Artists and other crazy people move into these cheap neighborhoods and try to make the best out of it...they put all them creativity in there and then suddently it is interesting- more people with more money move in the rent is getting higher -the ones who cant afford it no more have to move to other places and whats left is the more rich ones - Neighborhoods getting more clean and rebuild....It is like a lifecircle =) First i was against it but i think thats just the way it is. The only thing i wish is that people who are living there forever are not all just bought out- cause they where there in the first place. And what is "for example" New York City without REAL BORN New Yorkers? What is Lisbon without all this lil Stores , Bars and Cafes and its people who where born there ?
The good thing is that these rich people have the money to save many of this beautiful Old buildings and rebuild them...i think we have to think about this too.
here are some pics of abandoned graffitispots in Lisbon...(it is crazy if you think about - that in these Buildings years ago people worked for make them living, childrens were raised, family lived them lives etc. - what will happen to the place i am living 100 years from now ??? )
