AI is Getting Crazy Good
My talented friend and renowned tattoo artist Greg Lehman sent me the above picture today. As you can see he’s really mastering ChatGPT. It’s pretty clear, at this point, the only limits to AI are our imaginations and how good we are at crafting prompts.
To create this image Greg used the following prompt:
"Create an image of an action figure in packaging labeled Author/Novelist. Use the attached photo as a reference for the face. He is 5' 9" tall and dressed in a grey shirt and black jeans with a black belt, and holding pen. The cardboard section should be red. Include an 'Accessories' section with items like pencil, A high-quality notebook or journal for writing, A book or guide on writing or poetry. and a pen. Make the design visually appealing and reflective of a novelist industry. Do not include the character image on packaging."
The likeness isn't perfect but it's impressive and incase you're wondering I will absolutely not be having action figures made for this book launch. : )
Your Feedback is Requested
The book design process for Poems from the Edge of the Apocalypse is moving along like a freight train now. Lubosh, the book designer, and I have narrowed down the book cover to the following two options. As with each of my last four books I’d be interested to hear your feedback. If the rest of the process continues to go this smoothly I should be taking pre-orders in May.
Which do you prefer— A or B?

I was thrilled that Lubosh was able to squeeze in Ghostly Chapters as the closing poem in the book. I think it will be a great way to close out the collection.
It's interesting to me how much AI has contributed to the design of this book. It's growing clearer by the day what a huge help artificial intelligence will be to humanity (if it doesn't go rogue and destroy us all).
Be well, make the most of this day. Thank you for reading!

My vote is B.
Thanks!
Your friend Greg is very good at giving directions for creating an image in AI; the result is undoubtedly surprising.
This is a difficult decision, since both options are great, but my preference for option B is to see the child on the side.
I'm glad everything is going well.
Enjoy a beautiful afternoon.
Greg is a true renaissance man. Thank you for your input my friend! Enjoy the day.
I would go for B.
It is more interesting than the boy in the middle. Somehow that is too perfectly placed. Not sure how to describe it. Maybe it is just a feeling.
In the B version you see more of the background… the chaos from the apocalypse. The boy standing on the side gives him a more gentler appearance… more vulnerable.
Hope this helps.
Have a nice day 😊
I appreciate the feedback! There's so much to consider. Thank you and I hope you enjoy your day!
You are welcome. Yes, I can imagine… I hope you know soon which one it will be.
Thanks a lot, enjoy your Friday!

Wow, that's crazy lol!
I vote B...I like the offset as it invites you to look into the cityscape after looking into his eyes.
Rethink that action figure lol....you never know!
I was shocked by how realistic it looks! Thanks for the vote! The action figure would be cool to have for the office but unless you had a 3-D printer to make a single one you'd probably have to have a run of hundreds made. I am thinking about merch though to offer during the launch.
It's so exciting...I can't wait to see what you come up with!
Impressive what the AI does with the images.
Of the two covers I like more the “A” where the child is in the center of the photo, I think that way the viewer's gaze is more oriented towards the whole work. I'm glad you will soon be able to make the book available to readers. Happy day dear friend @ericvancewalton .
AI is getting quite impressive! A is my favorite too. For me I notice the pop of red first then my eye is drawn up to the title after that. Thank you my friend and I wish you a wonderful day!
I like B.
Thanks!
B seems to be the consensus, huh? I like the off-center "you" better tbh, so I'd say B too. I would make sure to check how it comes out in print as well, since I've noticed sometimes the colors can come out more faded/washed out in print than on digital, which might make trouble with the title against the background.
On a different note, that action figure is killer. He looks freakishly like you. Might be fun to have on the desk (though I would just keep thinking "where's the rest of his legs" and wouldn't get much done xD). Nothing Greg and ChatGPT can't sort out between themselves, I'm sure. :)
Yes, B is winning across Hive and all other socials! I've noticed HUGE variations in color with Amazon KDP print-on-demand too. I asked him to increase the contrast a little for the next round of revisions and I'm hoping that makes it readable in all different kinds of light and from a distance.
Lol, I was shocked when I saw it quite honestly. It looks like me only with a touch of Ozempic-face. I didn't even notice it was just a torso until I read your comment. I could put this in my tiny bookstore and it would be a full set. : )
Not to flatter but this is one of the coolest work pieces I've seen anyone do of late
The action figure is so nice looking, perfect arrangement too. The boy on the side makes the city stand out though. I wish you the best with the book man
Thank you! I appreciate it!
My vote is for A. The boy in the center is grasping more attention.
AI is certainly of great help by speeding up our work and bringing imagination to life. Nonetheless, it's going to be a threat to human skill and humanity.
Thanks, A is my preference too.
AI has been such a wonderful addition to the design process. I don't even think any of the LLMs were around when I published Ephemera back in 2021. Grok has unlocked so much more creativity and sped up the process considerably. I agree, mobile phone addictive isn't going to hold a candle to how addicted people will become to AI.
That is amazing, Eric. The likeness is very good!
As you say, AI can be a huge help, but hopefully, people do not forget to think for themselves!
I've learned a ton from ChatGPT since the loss of my hubby. Having to write letters about estate matters and other issues. I even copied my MRI report, and it explained everything in simple terms.
I love how the photo of the young Eric was enhanced for your book, I remember you spoke of it previously. Which cover?
Cover B - with the boy on the edge.
Have a wonderful Wednesday Eric!
I was pretty amazed when he sent me that. That's what I'm afraid of—over-reliance on AI. Once people get accustomed to it they'll lean on it too heavily, at the detriment of their own development.
Grok even has "therapy mode" now. It conducts talk therapy sessions with you and I have to say it's quite good. AI excels in reading medical notes and imagining. We've used it for that purpose too—in almost every instance it's given us better notes than human doctors.
Thanks! I can't believe this cover has good from "vision" to "nearly complete" in about a week. This used to take 4x longer. I appreciate your feedback! Enjoy the rest of your week, Lizelle!
My son had a weird experience at a specialist; he gave my son a diagnosis, then got tapping on his PC, then laughed out loud and told my son that ChatGPT gave the exact diagnosis as he did! The guy is quite an oddball, but my son was still taken aback!
So the doctor was checking his own diagnoses against ChatGPT!? That's interesting but I guess also reassuring in some ways that he's making sure he's not missing anything.
He's an experienced urologist but has a weird sense of humour. My son and I chuckled about it when he told me :)
I was fooling around this morning, needed a break, so asked ChatGPT to design a wooden headboard. I want to have one made up, so gave a brief description. It gave me designs, and once I chose one, it gave step-by-step instructions, went on to ask if I wanted a cut list, which it provided, plus the extras one would need. Sure would save a load of time, but what happens to creativity? I suppose we have to feed it with our ideas.
Grok sounds amazing, gosh, even therapy sessions! Probably way more objective than humans with preconceived ideas?
I would never in my wildest dreams have believed the advances in technology. I remember doing hand draughting, and getting uppity when told we had to learn to do CAD!
An amazing world we live in!
That is incredible….. I am having a lot of fun creating Music with AI on Suno.com …. Mostly over on Blurt.blog where my AI experiments don’t get downvoted ….
Thanks! I've never heard of Suno but will have to check it out.

I actually think I will prefer the B though they are close together. It is really a hard choice nevertheless
Thanks! Yes, it's a tough decision.
Wooow
AI is the new gold mine
This is beautiful and I love the prompt…
With AI even a novi e can craft something beautiful for the soul.
I’d still keep with the option c for the book cover
Thanks! Option C?
Yes
I love B. The off kilter-ness of it pleases me somehow, draws me in, invites me into the image.
Thank you! People, across the board, are liking B.
It's true, times have changed and many things have become easier for us once again due to artificial intelligence, and my vote is also B number.
I've gotten to really experience the benefits of it during this book design process. Thanks!
I think since last time, I stuck with B. I like that you can see the background, the apocalyptic landscape. Although if the child wasn't so on the edge, it would be better. Just my humble opinion! And as for the image made with A. I. I had already seen that technique with the photos of some musician friends and teachers, and they really are great. As you rightly say: the A. I. could be a great help if they don't eliminate us first. hahaha. Hugs, my friend
Thanks Nancy! If we end up choosing B I think I will have the designer nudge the child over to the left, away from the edge. These AI-created action figures are a trend now. I saw a lot of YouTubers posting them on their socials yesterday too. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Have a great rest of the week!
my vote is for A.
Thank you!
A I is taking over the future
Without a doubt.
#hive #posh
Hmm... usually I like putting the focus off-center, but in this case I like A better.
I'll have to tweak it, but first try (I just asked chatgpt "make an action figure package of me, using what you have learned of me from our previous conversations"):
I like yours much better!
Thanks! I'm leaning towards A as well. I liked B better at first.
Interesting! I wonder why it's monotoned?
They both look great but I prefer A from a design perspective. Something about the centering of the little dood makes it more of an attention focus and he is in the middle of that apocalypse in the background.
Love it!
