Macedonia is Greek and nobody will change that - protest for Macedonia (Where we stand)

in #greece7 years ago

Hello to all the steemian readers. I would love in this blog to mainly focus on all non Greek viewers. This is a matter of history, pride and truth !

So what’s happening is that the last decades there has been an issue around the name of Skopje, a country in Balkan which happens to be also our neighbors. For a long time they have been trying to make officially the use of «Macedonia» as their country’s main name. Now they demand to come in agreement with the Greek government in order to have the full use of that name. Meanwhile Macedonia is how all north of Greece is called. This has pissed the whole Greek community abroad and within Greece cause obviously this is clearly a demand with no explanation.

Let’s get our facts straight. Macedonia is well known for its history and of course mostly for Alexander the Great. As everybody knows Alexander was a great leader he conquered a lot of places and he offered a lot of stuff in Greece’s history…Yeah you heard right. Greece’s history. Another proven thing is that Alexander was Greek and even his father’s name was Philips from the Greek word Philippos. So first point, Skopje has denied that Alexander was Greek without any clear explanation while there are proofs from history that he was Greek.

Secondly Alexander was born in Vergina, a place that clearly belongs to Greece’s borders. This on its own can simply show you that he was Greek.

People in Skopje are doubting everything of Macedonia, even abroad they have made everyone call them by the name Macedonias and the craziest part is that even foreign countries have adopted it. One simple example is in a tv show in the Uk they asked a question. “Was Alexander the Great Greek or Macedonian” . the contestant answered Greek and the answer came as Macedonian. They made it clear that Alexander the Great a proven Greek leader was from skopje. This is enraging and so disrespectful. They didn’t respect any limit. On top in Skopje some years ago in the square they copied and made a statue of Alexander that has been here in Greece for many years now.

That’s why in this period when everyone heard about our government having conversations with Skopje’s prime minister for the change of the name, our citizens got enraged. On sunday in an act of Greek’s opposition in the adapting of Macedonia’s name, more than 100.000 Greek citizens gathered out of the Greek parliament to protest against the government and request for Macedonia to remain only Greek.

I, personally, stand by the Greek people’s side as a Greek myself. This is about us, our history, what defines us and mostly our pride, our territory. Nobody can come and try to claim something they don’t deserve to have. We are not going to let anyone to try to trespass our rights and borders.
This is a clear plan from Skopje to expand their country’s borders.

But the biggest blame owes to go to …the Greek government. Except of the chance they are giving to our neighbors to claim what they want, they are also defending the idea that there is nothing wrong by doing that.

Obviously Mr. Tsipras, Greece’s prime minister is forgetting about who he is, where he comes from and everything his motherland has offered him. Democracy was born here and it was born to teach to respect and also protect your rights. Instead he is giving everything of us away.

In conclusion we live in a period full of contrasts, with unfairness to our country and all the Greek population enraged completely about everything that’s happening.

I’m closing with my statement. I’m proud to be Greek and I’m proud of everything we have offered. Everyone that doesn’t understand what it feels like I would suggest them to go and read about our history. Through that they could learn everything that makes us proud for what we are.

Thank you a lot for reading. I would love to specify that we are not against people from Skopje. We only ask peacefully to end this issue. Every view and comment is welcomed and we would love to know your views on this issue.

Have a nice day steemians !
