GRC Wallet Bot Update - Staking!

in #gridcoin6 years ago

I am happy to announce that the Gridcoin Wallet Bot now supports staking!

Introduction

I haven't been around much recently due to the final examinations for my school year and preparations for university, but since the exams are now complete, I have been diligently programming and relaxing. My most latest achievement is the addition of staking to the GRC Wallet Bot!

Come join us over at the Gridcoin Discord and start staking now!

How to get started

  1. Join the Gridcoin Discord server
  2. Go to the #wallet-bot channel
  3. Type %new to create your new account
  4. Type %faucet to claim some free GRC
  5. Type %help and explore some other commands

Changelog

Rain changes:

The rain command now has additional user-friendly features to make it easier to use. This includes a prompt as to whether a rain has been successfully triggered and when a rain is currently occurring.

There is also a new command (%dm) that allows users to toggle whether to receive notifications about rain via DMs. This comes as many were complaining about the "spammy" pings during the CBR hardfork celebrations.

Staking:

Users who have GRC in the walletbot will now earn interest on that balance as the bot's wallet stakes! So you can park your GRC in the bot and have it earn interest over time without you having to lift a finger.

The staking rewards are proportional to your balance, so the more of a balance you have compared to others, the more rewards you get!

Any rewards you gain are automatically added to your regular balance, no need to manually place your balance into a staking balance.

Along with this feature comes a new command to check your stakes (%stake) so you can keep track of your profits.

New deposit limits:

From now on, the minimum deposit for the bot is 0.0125 GRC (in-line with the minimum stakeable amount) and any deposits below that amount are not recorded.

In addition, the minimum balance to stake is the same (ie, you must have more than 0.0125 GRC to get stake rewards).

Fun commands:

You can now %take from other users hehe... The bot will just quote skyrim or space odyssey instead of actually taking any funds.

I dont mess around in discord, but this looks like great development, well done

Thanks, I'm quite astounded of how simple the implementation was, I was able to program it in one afternoon.

Thanks for your good work =)

You got a little gift for your good work.

Thanks so much :D <3

I have a really old version of the gridcoin wallet how can i access my funds properly?

  1. Backup your wallet.dat and gridcoinresearch.conf to somewhere safe. (For windows go to your search bar, type %appdata% and press enter, then navigate to Roaming and then the GridcoinResearch folder. For linux, go to ~/.GridcoinResearch)
  2. Go to https://gridcoin.us and get the latest version of the wallet for your system
  3. Follow the prompts for installation
  4. Load up the new wallet and it should work right out of the box!

If you have any issues feel free to come to the discord or make a post on reddit.

thanks ill give this a try!

Very interesting. Thank you very much!

nice comunity and nice teams there, i am on discord also

I see you took some of the (stupid) ideas from me!

Why is the deposit limit so high? Is it expensive to process the transaction when you already have the user account in database?

I don't consider that as high, in fact I think it is perfect as that is the minimum stakeable amount considered by the Gridcoin network. This way it discourages dust attacks. Also consider the fact that exchanges that support GRC have a significant GRC limit on deposits (I know the 1 GRC deposit limit for southx) so I believe that my implementation is a quite reasonable value.
