We are waiting for you, oh SUPER-block... again

in #gridcoin7 years ago (edited)

There is again no superblock for more than 55h:

<fediverse>   last superblock: #951984, 55h 17 mins ago (2017-07-04 22:19:44) / superblocks come like every 26-48h (e.g. see '!superblock history')

It seems the superblock fixes in version 3.5.9.1 (+ 3.5.9.2) not working (fully) or

some more conditions need to be checked :-(

We had now 5 superblocks after this 148h-MEGA-long superblock #942327, and

the average and median times were about 33h (or in block terms: 1931 blocks and 2051 blocks).

Superblock #950458 with its 43h creation time was the longest one in these 5, but still in the range people were "used to"

  • but just thinking that in the 21st century we have such long times is ?!?!?!?! e.g. there could be 25 superblocks, for each whitelisted project with shorter times... keep in mind it seems there exists a "rumour" that it was once 24h or so, some people still throw that number at newcomers...

What can you do?

  • Windows users: upgrade to 3.5.9.2 (see comments below)
  • Pray with us to the Gridcoin Gods that we soon see a superblock! If we don't get one soon, you didn't pray earnestly enough...

Song for the Superblock.
(Sing to the tune of - I'm a lumberjack - Monty Python)

He's a superblock and he's OK.

He sleeps all night and he works all day.

He's a superblock and he's OK.

He sleeps all night and he works all day.

He cuts down trees, and eats his lunch.

He goes to the lavatory.

On Wednesdays he goes shopping and has buttered scones for tea.

Repeat until superblock arrives or you go stark raving mad ........

after 62h there it is:

  • superblock: #956235 (2017-07-07 13:00:00)

Kek, I missed your comment. Thank you for the transcription, it was very interesting!

Thanks for the update. Good luck with testing hope you'll find the problem!

It is recommended to remove from neural network to help at generating the superblock, or that is not necessary anymore since the las updates?

Maybe just more people need to upgrade to the new version? Since its a leasure that may take a while.

How will you motivate them to upgrade? The decision should have been made to mark a new mandatory version sooner, we had a few important changes (last mandatory was 3 months ago: 3.5.8.8 (released on 2017 April 2))

And ofc when the situation is correct analyzed that the new version really fixes this problem

Anyways, let's try with manually calling out:

  • #Gridcoin users on #Windows: please upgrade to version 3.5.9.2: we need your help with the superblock

It is not a mandatory because old versions still work.
And the superblock problem is not system breaking - even if it is solved in .2

Disclaimer: I am just a bot trying to be helpful.

Is there anything we simpletons can do other than keeping our wallet open to help with the issue?

One theory is that Windows users upgrade to version 3.5.9.2

See what the dev says here

Ok upgrading right now! Thanks for your hard work Erkan.

OK I will get my windows node staking again

Great post erkan 😎. Please Check out some of my Cryptocurrency recommendations and other posts!

i'm just curious but how does upgrading to 3.5.9.2 solve the issue? can anyone please share?

see dev comment here:

  • "A lot of people are still running old nodes, still making it hard to reach consensus. On my wallet, only 37% (10/24) of the NN-capable connections are running 3.5.9.2."

The 3.5.9.1 version was a fix for the "causes" of the 148h-long superblock (see dev review),
and the 3.5.9.2 is a fix of the 3.5.9.1 (some people had only 7 or 8 whitelisted projects in the SB, not 25 as usual)

And once many run the 3.5.9.2 version we will find out if the bug is fixed or something is still missing...

We have finally hit another superblock!
