Tonight!
Voting
Tonight we break back into the Gridcoin protocol by discussing the ins and outs of the voting mechanism.
We will discuss its uses, including informing decisions and managing the whitelist. We will discuss how it works, including the differences between coin-weight and magnitude-weight. And we will discuss some possible improvements and alternative systems.
We are also very excited to be joined by @delta1512 who will be introducing a new segment of the show called the Project brief. The Pb will serve to introduce different projects across the BOINC network. Read on to find out more!
Project brief: SETI@Home
For this week's Pb, @delta1512 will be introducing the distributed computing project that started it all: SETI@Home.
SETI stands for the Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence. In their arsenal, they have an army of radio telescopes around the world collecting noises from outer space. All those noises are then stored and then given to computers so that they can listen out for unusual stuff.
To learn more, check out the project brief post linked above, or join us live tonight on The Gridcoin Fireside.
See you soon!
What is Gridcoin?
Gridcoin is a multi-incentive open-source blockchain. Incentive one, stake rewards, rewards participants for securing the ledger through a proof-of-stake protocol. Incentive two, research rewards, rewards participants for contributing to approved projects hosted on the distributed computing infrastructure, BOINC.
BOINC, the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing, hosts major institutional computing projects such as IBM’s World Community Grid, SETI, and data from the Large Hadron Collider, alongside projects developed by students, enthusiasts, mathematicians, researchers, and citizen scientists.
