RE: Making important account decisions visible

in #growth-ideas8 years ago

I rather like the idea myself but I am not sure it would totally change how I vote on other's posts. If I find a post valuable, I will give it an upvote, regardless if they vote for themselves or not. Though I have never upvoted my own comments (always felt too self serving), I did leave the default on the automatic upvote on my posts for awhile - not sure if it was helping or hurting me as I was so new to all this. I think it may have been one of your previous posts that I had read that lead me to the decision to deselect that option and I am glad that I did. Of course, it is great to be able to earn ourselves, but if it all because about what we can earn then the focus on building a healthy community is lost and I think that is too important to let go of. Besides, it is a great feeling knowing you can give back when you have not spent all your voting power on yourself :)

To upvote someone's post if it is valuable to you, regardless of how they have voted themselves is absolutely fair enough. Perhaps though, someone else who isn't upvoting themselves is producing something you value too. With limited votes, would you favour the one who wasn't?
