Todays Lesson in HotS'ing! Whats a SE? VISUAL PROOF of the importance of SPECIAL EVENTS!
where were we... Thats right we left off discussing the map dynamics of HotS! Lets carry on, we are just scratching the surface. There is much to learn! One of the more interesting dynamics and one that sets HotS apart from its competitors are that the maps are usually "special event" maps. These special events usually involve some sort of timed event. Whether it is collecting tributes or activating missile silos that launch at the base, they are very important to the overall game. Such as the one I play in today's episode. The special event in todays game is one where tributes spawn, and must be collected. A huge battle usually ensues between both teams trying get the tribute. Once a team collects 3 tributes, the other team is cursed!
What does this mean?
Awesome things. It causes the enemy villages cannons and buildings to shut down, and more importantly causes the enemy base's soldiers to weaken down to 1 life, rendering them almost unusable.
What does this do for my team?
It means several things to be honest. Firstly, it allows your own bases soldiers to easily push on all lanes by themselves, with no enemy soldiers or towers to hurt them. Secondly, This makes the enemy team spread out to cover and protect their own lanes. Lastly, it turns the tides and allows you and your team to group and either push on lane, or as I prefer, to wiep out the team one by one and then push one lane while the team is respawning.
Observe todays gameplay for direct proof of the importance of the special events!
As you could see in the gameplay video, I was not only carrying the team, but we were winning in the early game. We were over killing the other teams heroes, and pushing nicely on all lanes. In walks the special event. Which I will admit I didnt even notice the first one... None the less it happened, and this is where it starting to turn on us. Before I knew it we were cursed and the end was near. Struggling to even hold off the enemy. THIS IS PROOF OF THE UTTER IMPORTANCE OF THE SPECIAL EVENT. whatever event it may be, you can guarantee that it will help your team immensely.
TODAYS GAMEPLAY : Probius #2
I had a quest to complete and was required to use a SC (StarCraft) hero. Enter Probius, A nifty little melee hero of the caster class. I really enjoy the freedom and wide range of use this hero brings to the table. While it doesnt have the best hero killing capacity, It is so strong in almost every other sector. I use it as a support caster with killing properties. Probius is best used when you have a little time to prepare. To have pylons setup and be able to have a photon cannon out. That is the ideal scenario! When in group battles, always drop photon cannons, and the warps. Then do damage as you can with melee attacks. The main damage is going to be from photon cannons, weaponizing pylons, and detonating warps.
In one on one battles, which I dont necessarily advise, Probius is best when "on the run". Using the other heros greed to get the kill. Have a photon cannons ready because as the hero chases you, this will take them out! stay in range, deal damage as possible and let the photons do their work!Overall, Probius is a very fun hero! With this said, it is pretty hard to use and is not recommended for the HotS total newb. There are many castable skills as well as no huge dps/heal to "take out" heroes.
Insider Gamer Tip Time!
- Let me reiterate again... ALWAYS GO FOR THE SPECIAL EVEN! As you saw in my gameplay video, you can be whooping overall, but let the enemy get the special event and the tides quickly turn!This is something that can be somewhat easily missed, with all the action seemingly right on your screen... but remember last episode, watch the MINIMAP!
- Never rush into a battle! Always try and weigh the pros and cons. What do you and your team have to lose by you chasing down one kill at the risk of your own life? Should you take a couple tower hits to get a kill? Ask yourself the hard questions in the heat of the moment.
- Use the map to your advantage, whatever that may be! As you could see in this last probius gameplay, I tend to build alot on in grass because it shadows a hero or building. This is a huge advantage, especially towards range heros, as they have to physically walk into the grass to see what lies inside.
Having some serious FOMO?... Its ok, breathe... and CATCHUP!
