I did say it would be a couple of weeks before I get to work on pickups and what have you, but it seems like I've underestimated myself a bit.
I didn't mention this in the video, but since I know there might be someone out there wondering if I'm doing the right thing. Yes, the pickups when ran in parallel as hum cancelling.
I guess you could say they would work very much like the way Jazz Bass pickup setup does. If you only use one, yes you can brighten up the tone of the bass (mostly the bridge one), but you would add some hum to the equation. Both all the way up, it works like a giant humbucker.
I also didn't mention on this video (I probably will on the next one), I'm using alnico 5 lugs for the pickups. It's become my default way of building pickups, and the reason is that for the most part, the sound adequate in almost all scenarios. That is something that I can't seem to say about ceramic pickups.
