How To Adjust The Trigger On The Ruger RPR Precision .22

in #guns7 years ago (edited)

This is a quick tutorial on how to adjust the trigger poundage on a Ruger RPR Precision .22 Rifle. I will include some photo's with basic instructions, but there is a video that I made also if you would rather watch it instead.

As we all know, lighter trigger poundage can help achieve tighter groups in some cases.

This rifle came from the factory at 2.5 pounds. According to the manual, it can be adjusted down to 2 pounds or up to 5 pounds.

A gun vise will help with this project if you have one. Make sure the weapon is clear and the magazine is out of the rifle

Once you are positive the weapon is safe, the bolt must be in it's forward position so that you can remove the hidden compartment cover that holds an Allen Key for the trigger adjustment screw.

Pull outwards on the side pieces and then pull up.

Here is the key that is under the cover.

I don't recommend using the supplied key because it's too small. Ruger used a thread locker on the screw so this little thing just doesn't have the torque to break it loose. It's a standard size 5/64 so if you can use anything with some type of handle on it, it will help dramatically, like this!

Now that you have the appropriate tool, flip the rifle over and locate the adjustment screw.

In between the magazine release and the trigger guard you should see two screws. One is a chassis screw that stands out first and is larger that the trigger screw which is a a little deeper and harder to see.

The 5/64 key wont fit the chassis screw so there's no way to "screw" this part up and get them confused.

You will want to turn the screw in only half turn increments and test after each adjustment. Turn the screw clockwise to increase the poundage and counter clockwise to decrease the poundage.

After my adjustments I was able to get her just under 2 pounds. I can't wait to get this baby back out to the range an see how much this improved my groups.

Here is the actual video of me doing the adjustment if you would like to watch it. Many thanks for your time.

Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold

Very thorough tutorial. Love that riffle.

The way to describe each step in layman's terms is easy to follow, even for someone who is not "gun savvy". Hat's off to you!

Thank you very much!

Shes a tack driver man!
